I'm sure I'm not the only thing Peter has to deal with and he probably has no idea just how important I am as I keep modest
Nigel, thank you for the reminder and I apologise for the delay in replying. I have looked into this matter since we last corresponded and it frankly is not a simple issue. As to whether or not an Air Ambulance pays VAT will very much depend on the type of income that the charity receives and how the charity is set up in the first place. From what I can identify it appears that there is quite a wide variation and hence the differing concerns over this particular aspect of VAT. If a charity actually owns its helicopter it will probably be paying VAT on the fuel it uses. On the other hand, where a helicopter is leased from a supplying company then fuel purchased through that linkage may not be chargeable. The level of VAT paid on fuel is also different. At Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance I have one of my Finance Managers who is quite an expert on VAT matters and he would be a good person to talk to on this matter. His name is Crauford Thomson and he can be contacted on ----- ------, normally from Monday through Wednesday. It’s a very busy time at the moment, however, with the end of the financial year and he will be rather busy next week, but I am sure he can give you a better view on this matter than I can. I do hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Peter Aldrick

as the e-petition now has over 100,000 signatures it will be 'eligible' for debate in the House of Commons but it is not a given – so the more signatures the better

138,000 now and it ends 10th February 2013 so it would be good to get loads more signatures and less likely the Government could ignore it if it has a substantial number of signatures

if there were 1 or 2 million signatures it couldn’t go unnoticed – in this country how many motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, climbers, walkers, workers and inhabitants of more remote areas are there, more than 2 million

any of us or our family, friends, co-workers could need this service at anytime

so please spread the word let's have a snowball effect

as I'm back

bump

and a reminder:-

that even though there are more than 100,000 signitures it only means the petition will be 'considered for debate in the House of Commons'

Air Ambulance very much in the news locally and nationally today with the serious M1 crash around junctions 16 and 15a

ETA from original post:

Here’s something that could be helped by just a few clicks of a mouse button -

The RNLI lifeboats have been exempt from VAT on the fuel they use since 1977 and a government petition has been set up to do the same for Air Ambulances

‘The Air Ambulance Service have saved successive governments millions and millions of pounds funded by charitable donations given by the general public to run what has proven to be an essential service.’

even though the e-petition now has over 100,000 signatures it will still only be eligible for debate in the House of Commons but not certain that it will be debated so many, many more signatures are needed for them to really take notice

a quick look at the fact page should remind you of the service’s value - http://www.airambulanceassociation.co.uk/amazing_f...

because lots of people -
. avoid paying taxes
. want to pay the bare minimum taxes
. want taxes reduced or abolished
. feel that others should pay taxes or more in taxes but not them
. feel they already pay far too many and too much in taxes
. feel you should have paid for insurance for these sorts of things
. feel taxes should be at a minimum and rely on people to support such causes from some of the extra money they have from not being taxed so heavily

ETA: I don't know about Police helicopters
