His brother posts in General motorsport. And with a PH theme, I give you the work of Tim Layzell...

What I find interesting about the Tim Layzell pics in particular, is that there is an awful lot implied in terms of speed and motion with reasonably simplistic lines. It appears to be simple, far more so than I suspect it is. TL's pictures evoke all sorts of things that by definition can't be drawn; you can hear the cars in the pictures.
By contrast, the photo-realistic stuff is more like a clever trick, but is less emotionally satisfying.
Wow Otter smacker. Is that your work?
How long does one of those take?
Here, have an otter link as a gesture of my appreciation..

Here's the gallery link to the artist: http://przemus.deviantart.com/gallery/ - Has a very good mix of pencil & painted art IMO.
Link gave me a good laugh

I can understand the different view points regarding photo realistic illustration and "real" art
but I also think the styles of Tim Layzell and others could be better described as graphic artists?
I do love those but I also think the styles of Tim Layzell and others could be better described as graphic artists?

My thoughts too. Why spend 5k on what could be done in 2 minutes, with a digital camera and printer. I was always taught (at primary school level) that drawing and painting should not be a 100% reproduction of the model, but an interpretation, so it at least looks like a painting or drawing.
This minutia detailed drawing sort of defeats the whole purpose, if you ask me.
Agree about the "interpretation" bit to some extent but a good friend - professional artist in various mediums says that the interpretation card is sometimes, (quite often ?), played by those who simply do not have the ability for realism as a way of degrading the talent. Snobbery thing. If you understand it, it's not "art".This minutia detailed drawing sort of defeats the whole purpose, if you ask me.
