When ar were a lad, a local scrap man had a sleeper. He had an A30 fitted with a Westminster engine - that's 948cc straight 4 out, 2,900cc straight six in.

It was a bit busy in the front. The pilot and co-pilot sat in the back.

You only ever saw late at night, it probably wasn't entirely legal.

Saw two very entertaining 2 litre pinto-engined Mk 6 Escorts with RWD conversion at a recent hillclimb. Feels wrong to see them powersliding up a hill but they went very well...

The Pinto engine can be modified to produce some serious power.

Unlike a an 1800cc Mondeo lump. I seem to recall the most powerful production version was what 129bhp?

But then it isn't a sleeper. It's just an Escort with a different engine...

I hate to say it but Señor GroundEffect speaks sense.

If you want something mechanically simple and b-road hoonable than get a Westie. If you want a sleeper than by all means go ahead but be prepared to bend over and lube up.

Westfield - too expensive & I don't fit.

Always fancied an xr3i but they're getting a bit rare in MOT flrm

Easiest route to sleepers and Q-cars is to get the hot version and make it look like the cooking version. And as most drivers don't notice the intricacies of the differences between different models, just taking the badges off the fast one is often sufficient.

Stop spending money on stupid st ie a hotel every 2 weeks and buy a better car. Something b-road hoonable like a 90's scooby.

Given your recent automotive history Dave I'm almost positive this will be news to you but cars that aren't st cost money

I also call bullst on you not fitting into a Westie - surely you'd fit in a Widebody? You're not effing Godzilla!

My dad used to know a few people who had Janglias, some better done than others. The lad who killed himself in his due to drum brakes, not being one of the better ones.

This.

Lower floor, sensible seats and possibly rear frame mods would see Dave sat in one.

The truth is that Dave likes stters, but he's st at bangernomics. A nice car would be boring. No car will be ideal untill he grows up and realises that "B road hoonage" isn't the be all and end all of car ownership.
