I confess that when I was a student (a depressingly long time ago) doing my year's placement as part of my sandwich degree, I did indeed used to do just that in the subsidised work canteen. If it was spotted I simply paid it.

Would never do that now though - it's just cheeky and dishonest and a bit pathetic (as you rightly imply). But when you're a student things look different to you. smile
So you ripped off the canteen when you were doing a sandwich degree ?
Isn't that a total betrayal of the dinner lady/home economics code of conduct or something?
You should be ashamed of yourself and have your Batchelors (sic) stripped from you.

Many years ago the phone rang, about 2 or 3am and my Dad answered it.
A lady asked if that was "John" as she and "John's" wife had finished work and were waiting to be collected.

My Dad politely advised she had the wrong number and hung up.
She rang back and insisted she had the correct number (she didn't as that had been our number for 10 years and no John lived there) and to hurry up as they were waiting outside the hospital and they were cold.

Again my Dad advised that she did indeed have an incorrect number.
This situation repeated itself a few more times.

So as it was late, he had been woken from his sleep so he relented and said he was "John" but that he had a lot to drink and wasn't in a fit state to drive. He suggested that the two ladies get a taxi home.

The female caller was furious, gave him a mouth full of abuse and she hung up, Dad went back to sleep.

I always felt sorry for poor "John" as he must have got a real bking when the ladies arrived back, yet he had done nothing wrong laugh

Going back a bit but 4th year at High School. Arrived one morning. Grumpy teacher asked me where I was when the fire alarm went off after school the day before. Told him I must have been somewhere down the road as I only found out about it from a pal on the bus. Suddenly I was being accused of setting it off!

My parents were called to come to the school, however I spoke to a more rational teacher who believed my story, and when my Dad arrived he knew fine well I wouldnt have done anything like that so the main issue was stopping him from laying the teacher out !

Next one, pulled a 17 year old lass when I was 25 (I know, I know), she was mature and had her own flat etc. Anyway about 3 weeks later I get a call, its her, telling me she's pregnant. I ask her how she knows, has she done a test etc. Turns out she'd been for her 12 week scan and was clearly already pregnant before I was anywhere near her. For about 3 months I was getting random texts and calls asking when I was going to face up to my responsibilities ! Crazy !

Challenged the dippy mother parking across the yellow striped NO PARKING section outside the kids nursery.

"We all know you're a wife beater!"

Thing is I'm not, but I could of given her a left hook at the time.

I was once arrested on suspicion of burglary.

I remember saying to the arresting officer "Burglary? But I don't even drop litter!"

I was sat in college in a computer lab more than 10 years ago and a bunch of orange beauty trainees came up to me and asked are you xx? Yup! Then they started screaming at me, calling me a pedo, sick and all sorts every time someone looked to see what was happening, they told them I had pictures of kids on my phone. Turn out it was a prank by a "mate" though.

Got him back by welding the drivers door hut on his shed of a car, it was hilarious watching him, his wife and two kids all pile in though one door lol
There's office pranks then there's this...

I once got a call from a number I didn't recognise

Me: hello?

Angry man: Is this Max?

Me: it is..

Angry man: Your number is on my girls phone!

Me: Right...

Angry man: Your number is on my girls phone!

Me: Who's phone are we talking about?

Angry man: Don't play games with me

I hung up

I didn't know what to say to him. He was clearly implying something was going on between me and his girlfriend. But I hadn't been seeing anyone and I didn't know who he or his girlfriend was.
Asked my female friends about it but never found out who had the mental boyfriend
Around 6 years ago?

When I was about 10, my best friends mum came out and accused me of calling her husband a motherf'er a few days before. I had no recollection of this, and I doubt, looking back on it, I knew language like that, but she kept insisting for a month or so that I'd said this. Eventually she let me play with her son again.

When we're about 13, there was this thing for stealing the fancy tyre valve caps off cars and putting them on our bike. My friend decided he wanted my next door neighbours. I wasn't even out when he stole them but somehow they decided it was me, and I got a grounding for it, even though I wasn't there at the time.

Police officer accused me of running over a stop sign ( a low one ).

I had pulled into a petrol station as the plastic undertray of the car was dragging along the ground. Plod pulls in behind me, and when I say pull in, I mean trigger the ABS and stop about 1ft from my drivers door. He then proceeds to berate me about running over said stop sign, saying he saw me pull out of the side road etc etc. Takes down my details, tells me not to leave the petrol station whilst he goes and checks the damage. Comes back about 5 minutes later saying your free to go, then takes off.

While selling a car (got 77 calls in two days, might have been a bit cheap!) I had someone phone me up and accuse me of nicking her daughter's phone.

I can only guess that she was one of the 77, had called her daughter who'd lost the phone, and had got my number out of her history, forgotten she'd called me and then blamed me for answering.

I'd had the number for four years at that point.

Years ago after passing my cycling proficiency at junior school, I am riding along the road going to scouts (at the local army camp) when I decide to pull over and wait for my mates to catch up. I make the proper signal , arm out and wave it up and down, next thing I know this car pulls up in front and an angry squaddie gets out and accused me of making the wker sign at him! Well I hadnt a fking clue what a wker was and from then on it was bks to making the right signals when riding my bike!
