Perennial argument. If I was hiring customer facing staff there is no way I would have someone with visible tattoos, as it distracts from how you want to present the company, the customer might feel negatively about it and consequently the company overall, and like it or not it is generally associated with scratters. Yes there are nice ones, yes there are non-scum that have them, but it's like the george cross. You see it and you think of hooligans. That and tattoos seem to be far more common than they should be amongst the fat. My missus (who is very much not fat or scum!) has 3 tattoos, all small and well-hidden and they look nice. Tattoo your neck, lower arms, hands, legs, upper chest or arms if you're a woman then you know what you're getting into!! It's not like it isn't obvious you are permanently drawing on your body. You aren't doing it just for you, you are doing it for everyone else too. You want to project something about yourself. That isn't always going to be seen how you want it to be, and yet you do it anyway. It isn't like being discriminated against for being black or disabled, you did it through choice... and most of the time it looks really st to boot.
Funny you should mention that about customer-facing staff, my OH works for Dior, on the cosmetics front (you can imagine what they are like about appearances) and deals with customers on a daily basis, to look at her, you wouldn't think it, but she has a 3 foot tattoo down her side. She often gets customers who have tattoos and conversations grow about them, she then mentions that she has a huge one on her side and it is a shock to the customer and becomes a really good talking point. However, if it were to be on her chest or neck or any other visible part of her body, then I think it would be off putting for most and she certainly wouldn't have her job.Not really sure what I'm prattling on about TBH, but thought I'd share that

bedroom tattooists are my pet hate.
This. I've had conversations with so many people who show me what their mate's uncle does in his loft/bedroom/front room etc. I wouldn't normally comment on people's tattoos, because despite what I think of the artwork/design/inkwork etc, it's their choice and tattoos, like all art, are subjective. But one person pd me off when she spotted my latest piece which I had done in January and asked me how much it had cost, which was £180 for two hours work.
Them: You paid £180 for that? Wow! "Dave" would have done that for about £40
Me: Maybe so. But then it would look like your tattoos. Which are st.
Whats that saying? "Good tattoos aren't cheap, but cheap tattoos aren't good".
Never a truer word spoken IMO.

Agree that its the permenancy of them which makes them a bizarre thing to do in my eyes.
Anything I have ever bought or owned, or wore, I get bored of after a period of time.
SO if I buy a painting I will put it on the wall and really like it, and then after I have seen it daily for a month it will just become an irrelevance.
So to permanently etch myself with what will definitely be an irrelevance after a period of time, I just can't imagine.
I feel like that about my kids sometimes too. Anything I have ever bought or owned, or wore, I get bored of after a period of time.

Tattoos don't come in and out of fashion
You've either got zero fashion sense or have never seen any of the downtrodden middle-aged chaps with 1980's swallow tattoos on their necks who couldn't look less fashionable even if they were wearing a boyscout uniform knitted from their Mum's pubes. shakotan said:

I give you 'Travis Barker' - the drummer out of the Rock band 'Blink 182.'
These tattoos are all definitely real - I saw them at the O2 a few weeks back, and the guy was topless with all these tats on show.
He obviously thinks it's cool - hmmm, I don't!
I doubt he got them done for your benefit. These tattoos are all definitely real - I saw them at the O2 a few weeks back, and the guy was topless with all these tats on show.
He obviously thinks it's cool - hmmm, I don't!
If he likes them, then that's all that matters. Was just saying that personally, I don't understand / like the idea.
BUT...then again I'm not a cool, fit, double-hard drummer in an exciting, bouncy rock band, who sell loads of albums, do sell-out shows and are obviously by now doing 'ok' for money, lol!
Maybe Travis's tats go well and fit in with his life and scene I guess...
Although I don't like them - those tats on Travis probably add to his cool persona, and add to his image.
But the same kinda tats on me would look like a 40 year old, fat, uncool man with ridiculous body art that would make me look even more useless and retarded than I probaby already look, lol!
