I'm not sure I'd 'invest' again in 'proper' shoes. I've three pairs now and they are all uncomfortable when walking.
All pinch on the big toe. Every step I think why the he'll did I wear these. Yes they look nice but silly money for something that I can't use for its primary function.
I could buy 5 pairs of comfortable shoes for 1 pair of these torture machines.

That's why when I find a show that fits like a glove, I stick with 'em!
Sadly all my old faves have been discontinued, so I am forced to reconnoitre for new stuff now, annoying...

Proper shoes should never forego comfort in the pursuit of aesthetics. The real skill is in making a pair that are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

Just hold on to find a pair that fits.

Each has subtly different shape and sizing.

I have 2 makers that fit like a glove and others that just don't feel the same.

They are the wrong fit and size. Decent shoes should feel like you are not really wearing them.

Vibrams are pretty good for that, like a second skin.

Sadly when asking for advice in various shops inc factory outlets the feedback has been lacking.
The experience was the same buying a £300 pair of shoes as it is buying a £30 pair of trainers in Sports Direct. They fetch the size and thats about it.They are nice, and undoubtedly popular shoes, but just are not comfortable to walk in.

Yes. Yes you should be ashamed.
In line with other Crocs they feature holes in them. These are placed to allow your dignity to leak out.

Im buying them simply for the water to escape when Im in Fiji in 2 weeks wandering the beaches, I only have flip flops or reef boots at the moment.

Doest that make it better?

Absolutely NOT Sir...... Take yourself somewhere quiet and thrash your own buttocks with a bicycle chain. A basic flip-flop will serve your needs.

The key for me was having LOTS of shoes to try on in my own time without a sales guy standing over me. The Northants factory outlets are great for this. Just grab 4 or 5 different models at a time and try them on. For me, the fit felt compromised in some slight way for 90% of the shoes I tried on. Every now and again you try on the "right" shoe. You cant miss it.

They're no worse than 95% of the ridiculous clown shoes on this thread, if that's any consolation.

Didnt get them in the end.

Anyone recommend anything a bit classier than flipflop to wander around a beach on, my deck shoes are finally dead and I need something else.

Im in Sing this week and Sydney next week.... recommendations please.

The guy at Oliver Sweeney in Leeds is knowledgable and helpful. Sweeneys are the comfiest shoes I've owned without needing any break in.

Conversely the 2 girls in cheaneys haven't got a clue about anything

Come Haan pinch weekender are a nice, comfy alternative to a deck shoe. Personally can't stand any footwear on sand though.

yes It is something of an expensive game of Russian Roulette at first. I know which last to buy with Barker now, and I know it isn't worth trying the others again. Whether I do the same for other makes or not, is currently undecided.

For work I have an old favourite with Clarks that I simply mail order in twos (two pairs) and rotate. It's cost effective and comfortable, and I don't care that much about how work shoes look.
