It's the wooden bit on the heel which is lethal on my Barker shoes. Massively regret buying them
I'd have thought it was leather?Why not get it replaced?
Stu, it's the nails causing the Torvil and Dean, take them to the cobblers and tell them. They will probably punch them in or possibly fit a full heel rubber. If you're a bit on the short side you could have them pack it out an inch or so.

To be fair, the shoe pictures above is a bit of a specialist interest.
Speaking of special interest...I think I'll know my answer but does anyone have any experience with Jo Ghost? They're probably a bit too Jeffery West for most on here but I like JW. I don't fancy anything they have at the minute though.

They are, as you say, special interest. I cannot imagine what clothes you'd wear them with.

Some of us don't conform to the thread standard of dad jeans and brown lace ups. I find most of the English shoes and shoemakers boring as fk. Traditional to the extreme. I'm not 60, I'm not a hipster and I won't be wearing brogues any time soon. I've always liked Jeffery West, but I'm looking at Paul Parkman and now Jo Ghost. Trouble is sourcing/fitting, I'm not keen on online shoe buying.
Ahh, I see the the old leather vs rubber sole debate has come up again.
For most of us, we are choosing between something like
Leather;
and rubber;
and there isn't all that much between them regarding looks around the "normal" £200-£400 range that most of us dabble in.
Then InductionRoar comes along and gets in a tizz because when he thinks of leather vs rubber, he is thinking;
Bespoke fiddle waist oak bark tanned closed channel £6000 masterpieces
vs...
Rubber

Glad you said which was which. The difference is that small I wouldn't have known. Bespoke fiddle waist oak bark tanned closed channel £6000 masterpieces

Speaking of which, how are your bespokes coming along? Had the final fitting yet?
The soles will certainly not be finished to the standard of those ones you quoted though. The English don't do sole polishing like that. Are they Japanese?

No, not yet. I went down in February for the first fitting and they reckoned late May/early June for the soles to be stitched on. They would be ready to take home at that stage although I suspect I will need another fitting after that, but hopefully not.

Japanese? No idea! I just google imaged bespoke fiddle waist sole or something and I picked the most elaborate/sculpted one I could see. It was tricky finding one more impressive and crafted than the one you already posted.The soles will certainly not be finished to the standard of those ones you quoted though. Back to your shoes - so they let you wear the shoes and then can possibly tweak them again afterwards? Do they take the sole off again and draw in the leather and re-stich?

Do you know which demographic is the biggest consumer of Jeffrey West shoes? White males circa 60 years of age. I find most of the English shoes and shoemakers boring as fk. I honestly assumed you were well into middle age and long bereft of coolness when you posted a link to those Jo Ghosts. I cannot imagine anyone other than an American, a black dude with a coke spoon hung round his neck or Jimmy Nail wearing 'em.

Regarding mine, I wasn't happy with the vamp on the left shoe but I was assured that once the sole was stitched on it would provide the necessary support and rigidity and that it was to be expected at this stage. Cleverley's preference is to have more space over the vamp which creates a more elegant and classic side profile but if, at the final fitting, I am still not happy I will leave them there and come back again. I have been told they can be adjusted at the finished stage but how they do that I must confess I don't know, although I would suspect it would be a complete remanufacture and re-last, so clearly it is in their financial interest to get it right first time.

That is genuine, they love them.
