i can scarcely picture what sort of life i would have to lead where spending £1500+ on a pair of shoes would crop up on my todo list.
The trick is, don't wear them. well i suppose if you wore them they'd get all bashed so makes sense.
I don't want to spam, so I'll make this my last post on these bespokes (I'll try to anyway)
My best fitting RTW shoe is my Church Lanark and I thought it would be interesting to see how they compare in size/fit by taking a side by side photo. This is an unworn version of the Lanark which I bought as a backup as I like my old ones soooo much. Here is the comparison.
Close or what?
Going back to the finishing though - they are worlds apart;

Perhaps this is the place to come for some advice... although perhaps this is the best place to come for some ridicule...
I've recently bought my first 'proper' shoes, Barker Mcclean, see image (not mine) and I was wondering what kind of trousers to wear with them.
I have a couple of dark pairs of straight fit jeans to sort-of match the blue suede, but wondered if they warranted something a bit more formal, or a different colour?
They're for going out, making a subtle statement type purposes only, not for work or weddings etc.

Those Mccleans are popular on here and several posters have them.
I once read that as a general rule, you should aim for your shoes to be a darker shade than your trousers. So, pale tan shoes tend to go better with very light chino or flannel trousers.
They can work with some darker trousers, but I would always go paler.

A load of Barkers just went up on TK Maxx by the way.
Double monks, Oxfords, Derbys, Loafers in a range of suede, calf and hi-shine, all at £89 a pair.
Excellent value IMO.
FL, IYO are these the 'proper' Barkers or the cheapo ones as discussed a number of pages back?Double monks, Oxfords, Derbys, Loafers in a range of suede, calf and hi-shine, all at £89 a pair.

Not that I need any more shoes.

I find it hard to tell from the photos alone. They hardly put any photos on and you don't get to see the sole until you buy them. My local store never seems to stock anything decent so I have to get them online. Not that I need any more shoes.
I believe you can easily return them in store for a full refund if you don't like them.

Returns are are really easy, basically put an X on return form, take form, shoes & credit card to shop, job done.
I returned a pair that were well made, but a bit too "Car Salesman" for me

Yep, return very easy. I actually returned a 6 pairs last week (of various sizes/designs). I returned a pair that were well made, but a bit too "Car Salesman" for me
If they are 'proper' Barker shoes, I agree, good value and worth a punt. I suspect they will be the cheaper made in India range.
In fact, you can just about make that out on these Monks
Not sure about the rest. In itself, not a bad thing, might be comparable to the Design Loake range but may stray into the much cheaper feeling (imvho) Loake L1 range.
Agree that at the end of the day, you can't tell until you see them IRL.

popular, but F'ing uncomfortable. I don't tend to wear them with jeans as they look a bit OTT, to me. I once read that as a general rule, you should aim for your shoes to be a darker shade than your trousers. So, pale tan shoes tend to go better with very light chino or flannel trousers.

Was it you that had the issue with them crushing the top of your toes? I have that issue with my Barker Johnny which I believe are on the same last. Shame as the rest of the fit is pretty good. Feels fine as long as I don't have to walk anywhere.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
