I notice the profile view shows a split heel whereas the underside view shows a continuous rubber heel.

The ones I'm currently wearing are split.
Ditto.

These were about the only loafers I could find in a big wide fitting.

The correct way.

@GB2: I know you liked that combination, something to brighten the shoe thread. tongue out Today's grey with yellow spots was a more socially acceptable shoe/sock comb (good match for my tie actually).

@LG I'm pretty sure I did the anticlockwise loop as per the video. I'll have to check my shoe lace tying technique when I get home.

I'll actually be wearing the JWs this weekend for a wedding (with a navy slim fit, peak lapel suit from Charles Tyrwhitt, burgundy tie, probably white pocket square). Haven't decided on the socks yet. wink

Your bow wouldn't be longitudinal if you did it right. It would be lateral.

I are a expert, don'tchaknow.

Have you been riding your bike in these, looks like pedal scuff marks.
It's the residue from where he tried to glue some Shimano cleats on.

If you are being really anal, Derbys shouldn't be laced up in the straight bar method either.

Does anyone know of any UK made Goodyear welt brogues that have a removable insole? After an accident I have to wear orthotic insoles and, for example, I've tried the Loake Chester but there was insufficient space to accommodate the insole. I have found an option made by Mephisto but wondered if there are any others out there.

From my experience, the decent shoes tend not to have a removable insole.

I do have a pair of Oxfords by Anatomic Gel Co. which do have an insole. They are made in brazil though and tend to have rubber soles. They do a premium range with leather soles, but they look not to have an insole.

Your best bet may be the likes of Ecco, Steptronic, Clarks?

Let me know if you find anything suitable as I sometimes like an insole to correct mild overpronation.

Anybody got some tips on cleaning (light brown) suede shoes? Only a cheap pair but I ended up walking over a beach in them and the front of them are now very pale.

Serves me right for not taking enough footwear on holiday, but really needed to get to the (beach) pub!

I am no expert on suede, but googling the subject comes up with the expected results; use a suede brush (most seem to have brass bristles) to remove loose dirt, and a mix of water and white vinegar to dissolve and wash away salt.
Neat white vinegar has been my goto for removing salt stains from leather shoes for years, but disclaimer: I've never tried it on suede shoes (as I don't have any).

I can wholeheartedly recommend this Saphir sude cleaner I recently rescued a pair of black suede derby's that I thought I might have to bin: They came up like new, well chuffed!

How can their be a wrong way to tie shoe laces?

Surely as long as the laces are tied and not falling out / the shoes are keeping your feet in no one really cares.

Plus, who's looking at how your laces are tied.

I don't think I've ever looked at how someones shoe laces were tied.
