As an aside, today is the first time I've worn the Jeffrey West shoes to work, complete with the red laces. Gone down very well. Rest of the outfit was quite conservative to balance.
This has been playing on my mind a bit g3org3y. It seems that whenever you buy an wear to work ever more outré footwear it, "goes down well".Now, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I am an extremely stylish man. Yet throughout my entire office-based career I my shoes might have "gone down well" about once.
For your footwear or ensemble to "go down well" suggests to me one of two things: Either you hold some sort of dandy's briefing where you assemble to discuss each other's attire, or you've become some sort of attraction. Which is it?

I don't work in an office. All my admin, reception and secretarial staff are women. They notice clothes/shoes and will always comment on new items. They are also keen to notice new fragrances (as per the aftershave thread).
Of my two male colleagues, one dresses inoffensively, the other very poorly (neither have an interest in clothes/shoes etc). Simply dressing well stands out. There's no dandy debrief. As to whether I'm an 'attraction' or not, that I cannot comment on.
I hope the above helps put your mind at ease.

the sort of people that wear jeffrey west shoes are the sort of people that hang around with the sort of people that wear jeffrey west shoes.
Trust me, there is no one I hang around with who wears Jeffery West shoes!TBH, I wasn't even aware of JW shoes until discussions on this thread a couple of years back. The vast majority of their designs are far too eccentric for me. The ones I bought are very conservative by comparison, it's only really the red laces that make them stand out.

There is nothing wrong with Jeffery west shoes you just have to break out of the brown/black barkers blah blah mindset to wear them. Same with any item of clothing that is not grey and boring. Rules are there to be broken and a lot of style is about confidence.
what you state is very much your opinion. Another opinion is that they are pretty garish in general.Blown2CV said:

That's quite true. If you own the style/outfit, you can pull it off.craigjm said:
This whole thread is opinion is it not? Basic fact is that clothing and style and very personal things but there are many people out there who don’t have the balls to rock the boat even slightly and believe all the no brown in town and all of those other “rules”
IMO, a good understanding of the 'rules' (colour, fit, etc) can allow one to break/bend them effectively.Re JW styling:
These are relatively conservative and something I'd consider wearing:
There are not, and I wouldn't!
I wouldn’t wear the bottom pair either but I know a few people that would and it would suit their “style”. There is quite a range between the two with some being more out there than others.
You know my views on fit etc and yes I agree an understanding of the rules is useful to know where to bend. I see lots of people around me though that stick religiously to them and look dull and boring.

Agree re the range. It's certainly varied! The other attraction of JW is that they are actually decent quality shoes that also happen to come in more outlandish designs than one would otherwise expect. You know my views on fit etc and yes I agree an understanding of the rules is useful to know where to bend. One can't go 'wrong' with the rules. Sometimes it makes sense to play it safe. It depends in what context the clothes are worn. Some situations require conservative dress. Others allow much more flexibility.

No, just had the link open and am in a helpful mood.
Here is my most recent addition to my collection and this thread. My first pair of Crockett & Jones’. I pushed the boat out and they are a pair of specials. Cottesmore in burnished grey with a medallion on the toe cap and commando soles. Should be good enough for many a winter. Burnishing is a lot darker than discussed but still looks fine. Just makes the boots look more black than grey. Has been done too heavy handedly in my opinion.
Wasn’t too happy with their customer service. Took six months to arrive due to their own error making the first pair incorrectly. Was given a pair of shoe trees to say “sorry.” Had to do all the chasing myself and was never once contacted on their initiative to let me know what was going on. Think twice before spending the extra on this service with them. You may be disappointed just like me.
