I always thought their boots were meant to be good. Recently spotted their other stuff and quite like the look of some of it.

I need some everyday chukka type boots that aren't smart but not too casual either.
Clarks desert boots worth a look?

I also think that Timberland make pretty good shoes too.

My original pair of classic boots were over twenty years old, and despite having some normal wear and tear they were fine, I would have kept them but Mrs P insisted I threw them out.

This is the current version of the ones I had.

I also have a pair of their boat shoes, that I. Remember buying in Neiman Marcus in Naples Florida as we needed some to use on the rental boat we had for the duration of the holiday.

I’ve just looked back at the pictures of that trip and realised I bought them back in 2003, so they are now also almost 14 years old, and are as good as new despite spending many many holidays very wet and covered in sand and sea water, I just throw them in the washer to get them clean again.

These are the current version.

So all in all I’m very happy with my Timberland shoes over the years!

I almost bought some of these recently, but instead managed to get the Polo Ralph Lauren equivalent for about half the price. I'm wearing them now...!

Good deal!

They were pretty expensive even back In the day, I think the retail for them in the US at the time, back in the early 2000’s was probably about $250 a pair!

We only bought them as A, we needed them for the boat, and they were on the neiman marcus offer sale, so we got two pairs for about $150 all in!

I had one pair and the other pair for my father I law, when you think about it, $75 each was good value, and the fact we both still have them almost 14 years later means they were really really good value!

I'm on my second pair of these

The first pair lasted a good 15 years of constant use summer and winter, pretty much any time I wasn't at work, and probably would have lasted a lot longer if I'd had the heal replaced (which turned out to be very cheap) before I wore away the outside of the heal/sole and caused the upper to shift over. The second pair I've hardly worn in the 4 years I've owned them. They list them at £140 now, but I paid £110 both times.
Virtually indestructible.

You eloquent bd.

They were cool in the early 90s with Levis 501s, today they are Dad shoes to be worn only by balding middle-aged fathers, who drive Vauxhall Zafiras.

In a conciliatory spirit of openness, I should perhaps add that I have a pair of sebago deckshoes with which I am very pleased, but the 4x4-tyre-tread on the soles of these and the heel stack all seems a little over the top.

Exactly so.
15 years + 4 years (all guesstimated) would be around 1998, so I probably actually bought the first pair somewhere around 1995-7, and yes 501s were 'my thing' when I wore jeans.
In any case, it wasn't intended as a fashion recommendation hehe, simply a testimony to their quality / survival. I believe that was the original Timberland enquiry.

I saw a lovely pair of all leather (I really don't like the leather/canvas combination style/look) correspondents yesterday. I may have to go back and try a pair.
They would be good for informal wear.
Though I really will have to get over my distaste for danite soles if I were to buy them.
I think that's what stopped me, and that the darker heel and toe cap leather appeared as though it may be 'perma-shine'. I far prefer a plain calf upper all over.

You have purchased two pairs of those Timberland monstrosities, yet won't consider purchasing a pair of shoes with Dainite soles? wink

I've never bought a pair of boots before.
But got these, which I actually like wearing.
Usually I buy what I consider smart shoes and only ever wear them once.

Really? That seems quite extravagant.

Those boots look OK.

I will confess. I own one pair of Barkers with danite soles.
In my defence, I was working in Aberdeen and, I had worn out the leather soles on two pairs of shoes already. And that was just during the summer! Desperate measures were called for.
But in all honesty, they are very comfortable, and I do still wear them quite regularly.

As for those Timberlands - very different times, and only ever seen on weekends.
Raising kids, even as a weekend dad (or maybe more so as a weekend dad) is hard on equipment.
All those park playgrounds, footballs, kites, frisbees, muddy fields...
Definitely dad shoes smile

We’ve booked to go to Lillehammer again in Feb, and knowing how cold it can get I had a look at my old Sorel Caribou Boots, and realised they had a small split in the rubber.

At first I was going to moan, and ask for a refund, but then I found a picture of our first trip to Lillehammer,,and realised it was 2009!

So they have done pretty well for eight years of trips to the rally and 8 years of walking the dog in all seasons too!

So a new pair was in order, and they arrived today.

Went for the slightly more Hard wearing waxy leather outer this time, and very nice they do look too!
