Not a massive fan I'd rather be out getting the fresh air and meeting/seeing new people. I tend to buy bits here and there on my way home from work rather than a big weekly shop.

I have tried them all except Waitrose. Sainsburys make a great job of it, good dates, sensible delivery people and they rarely are out of stock of anything I order.
Ocado seem to be very area specific.
Tesco think flowers should go under the tins and that that todays date is fine.

I prefer to go into the store and select, especially for the fresh things. But when I have done an online shop I have used Sainsburys or Tesco. However, I've found that the option to "not replace with a similar" doesn't often work, the person will see something isn't in stock, and will pick what they incorrectly think you would pick rather than leave as empty, so always check the delivery before signing for it.

So, pathetic or using a decent service that's there to be used?
My missus uses it most weeks.

It is so handy for starters, then it costs say £3-5 to get the stuff delivered, well my time and fuel to even get to the supermarket is worth more than that, let alone shopping on top and having to deal with the feckwits who put their trolleys it the way etc.

You do get the odd problem but we have found Ocado to be one of the better ones. Oddly ASDA is also good.

costs more in petrol to get to nearest supermarket than delivery charge

ergo, delivery

result = usually perfect, rare glitch that gets sorted

all round good

Ocado here too. As others have said, you don't have to worry about idiots opening doors into your car, the cost of fuel to get there and back, and the general inconvenience of schlepping around the hateful supermarket. If you're unhappy with the quality of any products, they will also refund without question.

I also find that generally we spend less, as the opportunity to impulse buy is removed.

Worth its weight in gold, IMHO.

Think I'll give Waitrose/ Occado a try?
Have used Sainsbury's & Tesco in the past both were good for heavy or bulky stuff.

Best delivery by Sainbury's I've seen was to a campsite at Silverstone smile

OP- could you explain what your retinence is all about? genuinely interested as to why online shopping could be seen as a "bad thing"- Can see the issue with online dating perhaps (but feel even this has disappeared now), but why could there be an issue with online food? is it any different to any other sort of shopping online?

both Mrs P and I think its brilliant- we don't have to bother with either wasting a whole evening with a trip to the shops, or losing a morning of a weekend.

Ocado for us, they are fantastic. Dave (our driver in Lemon van!!) last night carried the shopping into the kitchen, unpacked it, took away the empty bags and even apologised for a bit of spilt milk. Both milks were refunded by the time I woke up this morning. Dave, you're epic thumbup

We use it as it saves dragging two small children round the supermarket every week! £3 is a lot less than i would happily spend to avoid that agony!

Nothing wrong with it, o/h used to use sainsburys a bit.

In this place we've settled into a routine of a big morrisons or lidl shop at least once a month and then use local budgens/co-op/good local butcher all within 5 mins walk for fresh bits and bobs.

prefer waitrose and not for any snoobery reasons - free delivery over £50 whatever day and more importantly they swap out anything they dont have for something better and they charge you the same price unlike sainsburys.

just as cheap if you stick to deals and brand names too.
As above, I have all my shopping delivered by Waitrose every week and it's brilliant. Hardly any more expensive than the other supermarkets but if they haven't got something they'll substitute it for something better/bigger without charging the extra (apart from weighed stuff like counter meat). If something has a really short expiry date they also give it to you completely free rather than not sending it at all.

For every item you add to your basket you can add a note to the shopper (it's all done in your local store rather than a central warehouse setup) so you can specify the type of fruit/meat etc you want them to pick, and they do tend to take notice of it!

Dom (25 years old and getting excited about grocery shopping)
nono The Grocer will tell you that Waitrose is 35% more expensive than The big 4 on a given basket of goods.

We do it as 20 year old students - it is fantastic.

Don't have to endure Aberdeen traffic to get to Asda Waitrose, and it stops us impulsively buying things that we don't really need. Plus I hate supermarkets with a passion, always the same fat bint blocking the entire aisle and moving slower than a fking slug on a hot day.

And my car won't get dented in the car park.

Do it smile

I work for Tesco home delivery, and I would say 75% of the people I deliver to and under 30.
if anything like me you have 3 kids and a stressed out wifey and the hassle of getting them all there and not wanting one of said children to kick off in the middle of tesco means it is better to just do the normal every day stuff online

im 29 and 2 of the kids are twins im not a deliberate glutten for punishment smile

bks - yes maybe the exact same one week after week but if you go for deals and are clever i have found its actually worked out cheaper than the sainsburys shop we used to do. and its better quality.

Tried it a couple of times, they forgot the alcohol. Which is pretty much the only reason to shop.
