I cannot believe this company are in business and people actually send them stuff.

Im thinking about selling my old laptop, so went to the CEX website, and they would give me £160 for it.

then went to music magpie to see what they would give, having never been on there before, and they offered me......

£6.80, for a laptop i could get £200-£220 on ebay for!

go on, go on the website and put something in to get an offer on something half expensive and post it up here.

Business in making profit shocker.

They don't make you send your stuff to them, you know that right?

Business wants to make a massive % more profit that a competitor you mean? Surely that's something worthy of discussion rather than just trotting out the old PH standard answers?

Agree with the OP - How do they survive?? I checked a couple of old Xbox games I was going to sell on (Fifa 11 for instance) and they offered £0.30p! I don't see why anyone would even bother, I'd rather use it as a frisby then send it to them for £0.30p, even on Ebay they go for £5+

It's a funny business but it obviously is working because they run adds on the TV which aren't cheap, I just don't get where they resell the stuff second hand CDs seem to be limited to amazon and car boot sales since the indy record shops all closed in about 1995. I suspect they ship it all abroad.

They price based on their stock, so if you have a very popular CD then it's worth feck all, if you have a ste but rare CD that even though no one will ever want it they'll give you £3.

Its the equivalent of webuyanycar.com; an easy and hassle free way to get rid of goods and get at least some money for them for those who detest using ebay (like me). I used them when I cleared out my flat and got rid of hundreds of CDs, DVDs and games that I no longer wanted; made a few quid out of it. That said, I wouldn't send them anything that I that was worth more than what they were offering.

yeh i agree on the easy way to get rid of stuff.

BUT, I would rather give the laptop away rather than give them 210 pound profit on a 220 pound laptop.

cause its such an insult offering 6.80 on something like that!

How did you get on with getting the cash from them ?

At one point they had a terrible reputation for taking months to send a cheque, or saying that half the cds people sent were no good, so not paying up.

Thats whats always put me off using them, I have about 200 cds I could do with shifting and ebay just isnt worth the hassle !

To be honest I've only used them once, when I did that massive clear out and the cheque came through within days of me sending off the (3) boxes of goods to them.

I just scanned in 160 DVD's yesterday for £63!! Daylight robbery, but i don't know what else to do? nobody will want them as a job lot for any more, and it's so much hassle to sell seperately!

Are there any better websites that offer you more?!

I sold a load of old music CD's to them a while ago, got up to £1.50 for some of them (that probably only cost a tenner or less in the first place). Cheque arrived back quickly.

Maybe try zapper.co.uk who were on Dragons Den recently?

They offered me 30p for an early release of Ace of Base's debut album.

I laughed all the way to the bank, cheque in hand.

Where does the Music Magpie stuff end up getting sold though? Or is there someone who has millions of CD's in his collection?

hehe

Also, this Envriofone thing - again, send your phone off and get money sent - where do these phones go? Abroad? Resold in the UK? No idea. Just wondering where to get a couple of cheap second hand phones for my kids without having to risk scammers galore on eBay...

With the phones I'd imagine most go abroad, either to be resold or to be dismantled for precious metals by a six year old.

No clue about the CDs but would love to know.

I've binned a load of CDs and games through magpie in the past, wasnt great money but no worse than game or the like.

webuyanycar.com actually offered me 4750 for my S2000 and I had guess at getting about 5750 for a fast sale privately, if I needed rid of it pronto I'd certainly consider it.

Some of the phones stay in the country - if you have like for like insurance you'll get a refurbished one of the same model which is likely to come from one of these companies.
