There but for the grace of God go all of us. A sobering reminder of what can happen, the need to spot the warning signs early, and for goodness sake get help before it’s too late. Experts,
Apologies for gate crashing this thread. I have lurked for a while but I have never had anything of merit to contribute.
However, I have been named as the beneficiary of a legacy from the estate of my great aunt-in-law who used to be a scullery maid for the Logan de Vere’s of Bern. She has left me a set of 6 teaspoons (plus one ‘comedy reverse spork’) that I have been informed by the executor of the estate are described as ‘Maltese-Habsburg promissory spoons’ .
If anyone has any information as to these spoons, especially any tips for storage that would be gratefully received. I should add that they are engraved with the coat of arms of the family of the ‘Macedonia Turk’.
Many thanks

You bunch of snide bds with your sarcastic comments.
Franklyn mint stuff is ste even I know that
Your the sort of up your own backside bell ends that will ask to look at someone with a Mathey-Tissot Gents Automatic Vintage Roly Watch with Stainless Steel Bracelet and say oh how nice. Then when as soon as there back is turned you will snigger to yourselves.
Worse still I think some of you are so evil that you would recommend someone to purchase a cheap set of tea spoons and then ridicule tham after purchase.
I am disgusted I even chose to participate in this thread.

I suspect that the Apple Sirispoon will upend the market.
It is voice operated, can measure the temperature of the tea in which it is placed , calibrate the volume of liquid and adjust its RPM to optimal rotation.
It also calls your iPhone when the work is done.
Running on SoS 1.0 the market for new manual spoons will be reduced to a rump. The Amazon virtual spoon is only months away.
I am hanging onto the Viragos but only for nostalgia now.

The iSpoon is fine if you need to browse the internet, send emails, order washing powder and trade Bit Coins whilst stirring your tea. But as an object, it's ridiculous. The fact that you need internet connectivity and be near a mains socket just to stir is risible.
I think the more interesting move into the market are those objects being rumoured from Patek and Rolex. The Tea Dweller in particular is going to cause huge interest.

New tech is like that - will improve. When I call Stiri in the morning to get on with it I find it quite convenient. I think the more interesting move into the market are those objects being rumoured from Patek and Rolex. The Tea Dweller in particular is going to cause huge interest.

Just to let you know, all Maltese-Habsburg spoon sets come in sets of 8. I fear finding another two to complete your set will prove very difficult. Apologies for gate crashing this thread. I have lurked for a while but I have never had anything of merit to contribute.

Not all of them. They did some special orders. Even craftsmen have to pay the bills, and standards are always negotiable.I believe I'm right in saying they even did a set of five once, for le Compte d'Amiens, the weirdo. Thankfully he met his sticky end once the Convention got their hands on him.

Manual stirring gives a much more engaging experience. I can't ever see myself going automated.
You have to face the fact that for most people, stirring tea is a tedious chore. They are really only interested in a mediocre hot beverage. If the spoon can do most of the work, it will appeal to the majority of the spoon buying market. The average punter just wants a spoon that’s the equal of the one used by their colleagues. And even better if they can boast it has the latest spec, although they probably can’t tell the difference.

iSpoons, Stiri, Echo smartspoons and the like. Pah!
Let's concentrate on skilled manual stirring. Otherwise this thread will just become a parody.
Sometimes, just sometimes, I get the impression that the line has already been crossed.Let's concentrate on skilled manual stirring. Otherwise this thread will just become a parody.
I’ve been quiet so far because some of you may or may not know I have a vested interest in the iSpoon (and similar) due to the fact my good friend Mans Charleson was one of the pioneers in the field, I helped him with some of the early prototypes (the fun we had with a reverse double flange control algorithm was ace)
So I’ll sit back and see where this conversation goes!

There are few things on this earth less edifying than a closet Fromagiste spitting bile at good honest stirrers because their so-called sport was sidelined in 1895

Well my spoons ARE just for stirring tea (well, maybe my soul too)
Call me a purist, guilty as charged.
You won't catch me shovelling yoghurt down the pie-hatch with a Krupp 34b like some we could mention
..Still. is there not a case for sympathetic modernization of distressed spoons to add intelligence?...Call me a purist, guilty as charged.
You won't catch me shovelling yoghurt down the pie-hatch with a Krupp 34b like some we could mention
For example, ( you will are obviously a Krupp aficonado), the GroßteKrupp 7 that has just been released from Tilman Hanke adds modern self stirring to the 34b with virtually no change to appearance. Yes, it does cause a minuscule change in balance but it take en expert to detect it when used in manual mode. Most people would never know.,
not for me, no, I disagree with all stirring aids - up to and including auto-stir, rotation-guidance, cadence management software, variable flange technology, 'active-vortex' (or similar), Anti-Splash (tm), Spoon-2-Stirrer infrastructure etc - on a moral basis, almost on a religious basis
I would know
Herr Krupp himself would know
Jah know
peace out
