On a related note, M&S finally signed off my Warbleflemker Ecospoon design which will now be used in all stores. Fully recyclable, made from recycled whisky caskets from my own distillery.
I specified the shaft recurve and bowl depth myself and underwent extensive testing. Hope you’re all as happy as I am to be bringing the art of spoonmaking to the hoi polloi!

Sounds about right. IIRC the original tender paperwork said that the wood should be sourced from sustainable and ideally Fair Trade vendors. Be honest, did your links with Archie Norman help you get the contract?Tallow said:

Long-term admirer of the thread here, but nothing to offer in either wit or knowledge - however...I've realised I have a vaguely interesting teaspoon in my mongrel-drawer of cutlery.
Should I continue to use it to drunkenly spoon branston pickle into my mouth, or am I in possession of something rare and should take it on a photo tour of Europe's most beautiful cities?
(My kitchen is a disgrace, so taken on V&A crockery in an attempt to add some class)

Typical Blib
I thought you’d have learnt after you tried to scam the Third Earl of Sittingbourne out of his ‘worthless’ collection of plated 3/4 scale Warblersmeiels in 1987.
Bear-n, that’s a super rare 1823 Burgenhouzen Rosenschaften. Probably worth somewhere around £30-£40...
Thousand. To the right buyer.

Not sure I'd agree with that. I know they've been advertised for that, normally by Five Star Spoons, but do any of them actually sell for that?Nice spoon for sure, but, especially with Brexit coming, I doubt anyone is actually going to risk it at top money. Just my personal opinion.

There’s many a speculative hoarder with a decent ‘char pole’ stash just waiting to unload when the time is right. No wonder the Piddletrenthide Summer WI Bring & Buy Spoon Stall was overrun last weekend by avid punters desperate for stock.Nice spoon for sure, but, especially with Brexit coming, I doubt anyone is actually going to risk it at top money. There’s was a nice 6” Crimea Shaftenstirrefreude too, cast from captured Prussian mess tins.

If I had a pound for every time I'd seen a spoon described as "cast from captured Prussian mess tins" I'd have about £10m more than I've actually got.
I beg to differ, one has to differentiate between the real item, the name of which I believe to have been patented by the Revd Hamilton Gusset ( he being one of the Hampton Gussets of Hampton) and the Chinese copy made from compressed foil takeaway cartons - the latter easily distinguished by the appalling hand written grammar on rice paper of the instructions on the inside lid of the presentation box.The Hampton version of course being immaculately typed on Izal.

Crazy. I don't know how much longer it can last. There’s was a nice 6” Crimea Shaftenstirrefreude too, cast from captured Prussian mess tins.
To the OP - get shot quickly (NOT TO BLIB), or hang onto them as an heirloom and play the long game. In the medium term I fear for the longevity of the market.

Apart from the usual aluminium deterioration in the form of deep corrosion and alloy firring from humidity, they tend to last well. The occasional misting with warm uric acid helps retain that just-used patina.
You can just make out the alloy firring round the rivets on my Oberpfaffenhofen. Luckly it has not had a detrimental effect on the Ivory handle. I have no plans to restore it since original examples can attract serious money, it would be crass of me to divulge the value but they are still commanding strong money. ^ I have a couple of those though the ivory handles are in really poor condition; I'm hoping the ban on ivory trading is lifted in the near future so I can commission some replacements, though I'm not holding my breath, something about elephants being endangered
