Just bought the rapidstrike cs18 for me, and two firestrike pistols for the kids (neither 2 for thirty quid offers in stock).

Tonight will be fun!

Bump.

Nieces have expressed a desire for nerf guns for birthdays.

Suggestions for most fun - budget 20-30 quid per gun if really necessary

How old and tall are they?

My 3 year old loves her stryfe and they're two for 30 pounds at Argos. Buy some bigger magazines and darts from eBay and you're laughing.

Easy to mod with high voltage batteries too!

The rapidstrike is a lot bigger and more sturdy but is more bulky to handle.

Whatever you do, load up on extra ammo

My 5 year old has a rapid red (rebelle version of the Stryfe), and she manages to chew through quite some darts, they are probably all under/behind the sofa at this point, but having spare darts is really worth it, otherwise you will be cutting firefights short halfway through because everyone is out.

At uni, we had these..

Trick is to undo em, and block the valve. Powerful enough to leave a significant welt...

FWIW, Nerf are doing guns for girls, too. Yes, they're pink.

I've got a load of old Nerf guns I got during my wedding last year to have some fun with on the days leading up to my wedding. They were all purchased off Gumtree locally, some work, some don't (electrical ones). If anyone would like them all free of charge from Birmingham/Solihull please message me. Should have between 8 to 10 Nerf guns

Right, I'm new to the world of the Nerf. What do I need to know? I've got two boys aged seven and 11. They are the excuse I'm using to buy toy guns.

Seen these in Argos...

http://www.argos.co.uk/product/9115769

They are only small, but cheap (especially on 3 for 2!). Good way to start, or should I go figuratively and literally, straight for the big guns?

Do I have to buy specific Nerf ammo, or are there other options?

And what's this I've heard about modifying them so you can cause your children more pain shoot further?

Get the ones that shoot the larger red bullets. Your kids are too old for the cheap small one you have there (they're more suitable for 5 year olds). Screw the automatic ones - they jam too much. If you buy the guns that shoot blue bullets, avoid the clone bullets you can buy for 1p a piece on ebay - they also jam too much and the tip is a harder compound which will hurt more.

And always wear eye protection (£2?) - I know a parent who got shot in the face by his son and ended up with a detached retina. Sellotape isn't useful here.

Your choice. They're powerful little toys and you know they sting so you wouldn't want one in the eye.

I'll chip in as my Godson is into Nerf at the moment and I seem to have spent most summer evenings playing Nerf wars in our gardens. These two are quite good easy, to use and don't seem to jam like some of the flashier ones can; feed jams aren't what you need when moving in for that headshot.

Nerf Strong arm
Nerf Hammer shot

Of course your kids will want one with 4 magazines, 'laser sights' and which needs 4 D batteries to operate for about 5 minutes.

Well, that went well smile

Got in, gave them the guns and darts and they were over the moon! As they were opening them my eldest said "Dad, you should've bought one for yourself"

I then pulled out the pre-cocked Nerf from my pocket, shot him at near point-blank range and replied "I did!" shootbiggrin
