I play online small-medium stakes full ring cash games on Pokerstars for a living, and have done for the past 5 years.
Feel free to ask me anything you want to know about poker.
That's my cash game graph from last year before bonuses, showing how poker can easily be a low variance, stable form of income.
Looking good mate, even better for the flatmate at 23! Feel free to ask me anything you want to know about poker.

Would you recommend any particular books or online resources? I'm reading Super/System and looking on the two plus two forums, but sure there is plenty out there if you know where to look.
Do you find any software like PokerTracker or HoldEmManager adds to the game? I'm only a fairly recent player but want to try get ahead of the typical player.
used to play online loads, party poker mostly.. few nice wins
then started to play in the pubs, good fun but not for money, got through to final table for a WSOP seat package through the english poker league, i think they went bust.
then started playing at the gutshot/international again few nice wins
then started working so gave up, i see the international has closed down. anywhere similar in london?

Impressive! Is that really averaging 350 hands per day?
You tell me lol. i average about 600 hands an hour generally. Playing anything from 8-20 tables depending on how many fish are about.I have been playing on the free Zynga Poker site for a while, Texas HoldEm 200/400 stakes and doing reasonably well, just under 11m chips. Joined Full Tilt Poker site chucked $50 (real money) in to see how I would do. Up and down but mainly down, think there is $15 in the bank (im not very good).
Thing that has bugged me is people using "bots" on free games Why? What do they gain out of it?

I've only really recently started to play cash games seriously as opposed to the odd cheap sit & go. ~$240 up for the past two days, although $99 of that was a sit & go tourney. I have played hold em for about 8 years, but only very casually. I'm considering it as a part time supplement to my income at the moment.
RKi how are you tracking your stats?
using a commercially available program called holdem manager.RKi how are you tracking your stats?

Played almost every day for 5 years online back in the golden era. I wouldn't even bother now unless you are playing for fun and are happy giving your money away.
The cheating aspect is overhyped and all losing players claim the sites are rigged. However lower stakes are populated by 'bots' and young warriors grinding 20+ tables guided by computer programmes.
Playing live is much better now in comparison plus it has the social aspect.
I'm talking about NLHE here, Omaha still possibly worthwhile online.
Not far off the truth, there aren't any bots in small stakes Pokerstars games though. I can see other sites being infested with them though. The cheating aspect is overhyped and all losing players claim the sites are rigged. Small/micro stakes omaha is almost impossible to beat because of the insane rake unfortunately.

I don't read any poker books tbh but would highly recommend training sites such as iveypoker.com and runitonce.com.Would you recommend any particular books or online resources? I couldn't play without holdemmanager tbh, it'd be like playing live blindfolded.

Stats look good. Why haven't you moved up higher? I appreciate you're a winning player at that level, but you must be tempted?
Mainly a comfort thing, i know i can comfortably make money at my current stakes and like to withdraw my money to waste it on car parts instead of taking shots at higher stakes lol.I have moved up to £2/4 inside the last month though.

Are you implying small/micro NLHE isn't killed by the rake, if so do you mind expanding why Omaha is different? Do you mean because it's 60/40 flips all the time?Small/micro stakes omaha is almost impossible to beat because of the insane rake unfortunately.

The rake at small/micro stakes is still too high, but as you said, playing PLO involves far more pre flop all in variance and postflop play. So far more rake is being generated almost all of the time. This should obviously be accounted for but for some reason it never has :SRKi said:

Cheers mate, I'll check out HEM/PT then as think it'll add some good value to my game. I couldn't play without holdemmanager tbh, it'd be like playing live blindfolded.
I play NLTH in a local league (Redtooth) and thats good for a bit of social poker. 13 week season, top 2 + 1 from a playoff game of players 3-10 go to a regional game. First place in that regional game gets you all expenses to Las Vegas and a tournament there for something like £10k I think. Top 8 from that regional game get into a national game made up of all the other 2-8 positions of the regional games and then final table is Las Vegas also I believe.
I don't really go regularly enough, but when I have I've qualified for the regional games. Came 16th out of 220 in the first, and 16th out of 90 in the second.
I've played for money once in a casino in a No Rebuy NLTH tournament at Gala in Bristol on a Saturday afternoon. Came 3rd out of about 90 and got a £few hundred for my troubles.
As others have said, success is consistency - and not just in what hand to play, but also betting strategies and playing position - but I'm far from the best so don't listen to me
I've done a bit of online, but its total pap, with idiots going all in with 8,4 off suit pre flop after big raises pre flop prior to their action.... then they luck a straight or a flush or whatever.
Reality is, only idiots play like that live, unless you are some god at reads/don't mind rebuying. They get found out quickly. Online they seem to be 'legends'.
Learning that there are good hands pre flop other than just high pocket pairs and picture cards is also important. I can't tell you how much I like suited connectors if I'm in the righ position !

Suppose the community cards dealt are the following:
A2345 (Suit irrelevant)
Player 1 has 6,Q and player 2 has 2,8
I believe that player 1 would win by having the higher straight? Now suppose player 1 had a 7,Q; would who now win? the Q kicker would be the higher card but player 2 has a pair of 2's following the straight??? Any help much appreciated
