Missed this thread, glad it's that time of year to start talking about the Snowmageddon that we all know in our heart of hearts won't come.
Quick question: I've thoroughly enjoyed the stabs people have made at attempting to explain why we get the weather we do, and a few articles elsewhere. Can anyone recommend a decent book (preferably on Kindle) that's entertaining/interesting?

So Puggit do you have a rough prediction for the 1st snow day yet, last time you were pretty accurate (you will not be held to it as it is very early on)
Nothing on the horizon yet - but the rest of October will be much colder than we've been used to and likely to be colder than average. Will be quite a shock. Some mountain snow due in the next few days in Scotland.

What's the scale?
Says at the top, mph. But it's high up in the atmosphere. Blizzards in Iceland tonight apparently.Nice to know the Icelandics get caught out too: http://www.icelandreview.com/icelandreview/daily_n...

What is the general feeling around this winter? I know it's too early to tell with any decent measure of accuracy, but something tells me it's going to be mild and damp (good for the heating bills but boring)
We've had 2 cold winters but I've no idea if that sets a pattern or means we are due a mild one?
You can find whatever long term forecast you're looking for at the moment. Certainly the mid term is warm and unsettled. We've had 2 cold winters but I've no idea if that sets a pattern or means we are due a mild one?
