New signs being stuck on the risers between floors at work. Previous versions simply said, "Fire Door Keep Locked" but someone decided to spend a couple of grand on something 'more':

So..an update. I complained to the council, and within a day they rang me to say it's an interim repair & will be fixed in the next 6 weeks. Fair play.
As a highways engineer I'm responsible for organising this kind of thing quite often. Unfortunately its something we have to do in order to protect ourselves against claims.

If the area has been picked up by a safety inspector as a cat 1 defect for immediate repair it's almost impossible to get a gang organsied in the allocated time frame to do a proper long term repair and so blacking it up (yes we use that term) is the usual short term fix. Even if you did have a gang available you probably wouldn't get a permit or notice to do the work at such short notice, especially if you need a closure as it looks like you would in your pics.

You can throw the tar in within a matter of hours and traffic can use it pretty much immediately whereas to do it right putting the blocks back you'd need to take up a bigger area than pictured, screed it, re-lay the blocks and leave it with the closure on until coming back the next day to re-tarmac the areas around it.

Basically, we cant win. Go in and do it right immediately and you get local businesses, locals and bus companies etc complaining that they've had no prior warning of a closure. Black it and you get people like yourself complaining. Leave it in an unsafe condition and you get personal injury claims and eventually end up in court.

As good as their word....

I thought that was something from the 70's an then noticed the USB port maybe it is and they've just retro fitted the USB and all the other parts during updates hence being mismatched.

From the Scotland to London sleeper train.
All different sizes so the regulars can feel which one is which in the dark as they trundle through Lancashire?
