Hmm that's a tough one, maybe he's really into his cars and genuinely would like to wash a really cool car to have a good look at it.
Maybe he'll clone the key and nick it.
Things that make you go hmmmm scratchchin

I must admit I'm a bit of a saddo at work when I get a cool car to work on. It's just such a nice break from all the Focuses, Astras, Evoques etc that I spend all day doing.
well yea that's totally fine! If he'd said to me look mate i am professional valeter and i am building my clients up, it would be really cool if i could use your car to promote my work, can i photo it and i will detail it for free... yes no probs at all! It wasn't that though it was just a lad from down the street offering to clean my car with no other reason than please can i touch it mate! Maybe it was totally genuine and he just really likes the car but it just seemed an odd advance. He could of course just be a bit of a car nerd and was plucking up the courage to ask and if it was that then i do feel a bit bad. If he scratches it though...

absolutely weird one over the weekend. I could heard the wife answer the door and then talk to someone for a bit at the doorstep whilst i was getting ready for us all to go out. Turns out it was a lad from down the street who i estimate to be 22 years old or so... we'd never spoken to them in our lives and i wouldn't really recognise them out of context, but have seen them about. He was saying that his brother was really into cars and would like to wash my car for free (I've got an Audi S8). The brother is probably a year or two younger than this lad - don't believe there is any special needs angle to this. I think it would be adorable if they were like primary school age, but from a pair of adults i found it very strange, and was a bit taken aback. Mrs 2CV just kind of said she'd speak to me and we would come and let them know. I'm basically pretending it hasn't happened, but now I am wondering if i have just been a tt and should let him... but then i think no fking way it's not like he is a kid, and i wouldn't even let most professionals near my car.... then i am thinking we might get a brick through the window.... then i am thinking there is more to the request than meets the eye. Maybe I am being too British but I just don't want this weird situation thrust upon me!

I don't let other people wash my £200 Mondeo, l'd probably implode if I had an £80k car and spottymcspotface from down the road tried to wash it. I can see an old j-cloth and a dirty old bucket with fairy liquid and manky water in it already. Tell him it has a special protective paint coating meaning he can't wash it, but he's welcome to stand at the end of the drive looking at it.

To be honest, even if he's just a car nerd with no motive other than wanting to wash a nice car anything less than a full snow foam, two bucket wash, claybar, full machine polish and paint correction followed with a swissvax detail and seal I'd be saying thanks but no thanks biggrin

Slightly odd. I like cars but I'd never offer to wash someone's car just because it's cool. I'd ask for a look at it, but not to wash it...

I'd worry that he was looking to clone the key. But a rather obvious ploy as he'd have to be suspect number one if the car went walkies afterwards.

I'd offer to take the lad out in it but turn down the offer of a wash.

I've posted this on another thread (the "stuff that winds you up beyond reason" one), but it's equally relevant here.

My neighbours opposite ALWAYS have their front door open. Sometimes a bit, sometimes a lot. But ALWAYS open.

We live in a nice area, low crime, all that jazz, but it's still an odd thing to do, in my opinion.
Mother in law does this...

We've turned up, front door wide open, shes not home. Handbag with purse on stairs, car keys in the kitchen, TV on. When confronting her about it "ooooooooohhh it's ok, I was only in <INSERT NEIGHBOUR> house" even though she didn't notice the car pull up outside her house, walk in and stay there for 20mins.

I've lost count the number of times we've all confronted her about it and I'm not even convinced if someone did walk in and took the TV she'd change. Lately we've noticed she now leaves the garage door wide open too...

Maybe take him for a blast down the nearest NSL road. If he's really into his cars, you could always tell him the truth. Say you're funny about other people washing it (i would be) but wouldn't mind him sitting in for a quick drive. Might just make his week.

A friend of mine took some kids out in his car after they pestered him for weeks about it. Kids dad chased after him, punched him in the face and knocked his tooth out.

This bloke is in his 20s though.

My dad would've been pretty pissed off if a stranger took me out when I was 8, but by the time I was 20 he wasn't bothered

Our neighbour went though a period of sleeping in his back garden on a boxing ring.

He's stopped that now and it seems his family had something to do with it.

How old were the kids?
