Self driving vehicles with stalking mode, pretty cool. Means I can send the car to follow the subject of my restraining order yet still be legal.

I saw that line of trees and thought it looked disturbingly similar to the one that they crashed an Airbus into doing a similar demo about 20 years ago.

Damn, that was nearly 30 years ago at Habsheim in 1988

I googled that.

What sort of fkwit uses a LIVE flight with actual paying customers on board to do a sodding show off!

They weren't paying customers, they were journos and trade folks. It was all a show-off for a (then) very new aircraft type with radical technology and a lot of French industry / pride at stake. Whole thing was badly planned and poorly executed. One of the recommendations of the acciddent report was:

Passengers should be banned from all demonstration flights

Two of the dead were children. The third was a woman went back to help them. It says a lot about human nature in a panic situation...

O/T, but the two Airbus pilots I spoke to about this reckoned the thing was left, or incorrectly set to 'landing mode' and they couldn't fight it. Horrible.
