laugh: I created a profile on POF at the weekend. I've used dating sites several times in the past (last time about 6-7 years ago) and always found them positive. But my word, the world seems to have changed......
I'm late 40s, so looking in the late 40s / early 50s age group. According to a lot of the profiles in this range, unless I'm a mix between Brad Pitt and George Clooney in looks, at least a CEO of a company, wear Armani suits, expensive aftershave, dance like Travolta, go to the gym regularly (but not enough to impact my relationship time), have dinner with my mum every Sunday, look after sick puppies etc. etc. - then I shouldn't even insult them by contacting them.
And - much to my surprise - quite a few ladies in this age group seem to think that at least one profile photo should be them in their underwear.
It was really not what I was expecting at all......

I’m surprised they need to post underwear pics. I’m a female in that age range and was on POF last year with a very respectable profile pic, fully dressed, and still only got responses heavily laden with innuendo. Deleted my account after a while as I wasn’t looking for casual hook-ups, and very much got the impression that’s the only thing the chaps on there were interested in.

Yes, I was surprised too.It is a bit ironic - I get the impression that as a woman on there, you will get flooded with messages. A lot will be blokes trying to cheat, a lot will be players / innuendo etc. and more than one profile says they're sick of it and it would be nice to just meet a genuine guy. But if you are a genuine guy on there looking for a relationship, then I think maybe you get lost in the noise.
I started chatting to one lady who seems nice yesterday, and she messaged me this morning so perhaps something will come of that - who knows. But if not, I think I may ditch it until I'm willing to put a bit more effort into it. Summer doing whatever I please whenever I please seems preferable at the moment!

those are the type of blokes that complain on here they send millions of messages and never get a response, so it must be a problem with the website itself.Blown2CV said:

Yes I expect you're right. It's easy to do on a free site - message hundreds of women with the same flirty comments and see who takes the bait. There's definitely a market for that, but it should be clearer which sites are for flings and which are for relationships to avoid any misunderstandings!
POF is for both I believe...Well, at least there do seem to be some normal people on there.
Have a date tonight which I'm looking forward to - we've spoken on the phone several times, so it feels pretty natural now and we clearly have a similar sense of humour. We're both aware that you don't know how you'll feel when you meet face to face, but I reckon we're going to have a laugh this evening no matter what. Should be an excellent introduction back into the dating site world, and who knows - maybe more.
Failing that, there are a couple of other ladies I've been chatting to on the site - one suggested moving it to a call yesterday, but I won't do that until I see how tonight goes.
Maybe it hasn't changed so much since I was last on there after all - as long as you avoid some of the profiles.....
