Ahh right, my Uncle works for Scottish Power in a similar role. Seen him out at silly times due to faults.
I always wonder who's actually up at silly o clock to want to ring in about no power! But saying that strangely the last couple of power cut's i've had have woken me up, I think it's more the fact in the modern world there's never really complete silence with all the electronics people have these days, and the moment the power goes out the noise level just drops dramatically and that drop seems to wake me up.

I'll ask his daughter/my cousin she works in their call center taking those calls

That's very true, it's rare to have complete silence these days. Never mind, few bangs with the rezap and fuses seemed to go back in, and as far as we know, everyone's on! Happy days! Just got home and looking forward to going to sleep. But saying that strangely the last couple of power cut's i've had have woken me up, I think it's more the fact in the modern world there's never really complete silence with all the electronics people have these days, and the moment the power goes out the noise level just drops dramatically and that drop seems to wake me up.
I work in the natural gas industry, I suppose I must be doing something right if I'm still here.
Oddly enough I was having a natter to UKPN not so long ago whilst on nights, a local transformer at home had gone pop and the missus was up in the night with our youngest, moaning that she couldn't get on the internet as the wifi had gone off.
It's surprising how many people are around at silly o'clock.
