How much do I need to live a millionaire lifestyle?

A friend of mine is a multi millionaire. He has a car collection to die for, but drives a Citroen Berlingo as his every day car. When you have proper money, you don't have to shout about it.
I only know one (multi) millionaire. Drives a six year old Focus diesel estate (a 1.6 eco special), buys his clothes in Primark, his food in Aldi and famously once said he wouldn't be spending £30 on Costco membership because the return was unclear and therefore it was potentially a waste of money. The only outward clue to his wealth is his beautiful £1m (approx) house which he has never had a mortgage on in the 10 years I have known him, and his list of holiday/travel destinations that would tick off a lot of bucket lists. We reckon he spends at least £50k a year on travel and holidays.I agree with the last sentence. Shouting about wealth in any form is the last thing he would ever do.
The last two posters are the only ones to have truly nailed the answer.
The handful of 'millionaires' I know are the tightest people I know. Yes, they spend money when they see/feel the need, but most of the time they wouldn't spend anymore on normal stuff, food, clothes, etc than anybody else.
Its the wannbe's, either with or without the cash, the multi millionaires and the billionaires that spend the stupid amounts on meals, boats, etc.

What about this:
Single guy.
I've a really swanky apartment in a city centre, (not London) it's worth 400k and no mortgage. That costs £600 a month to run (council tax, gas, water, sky TV, insurance etc)
Two cars, a £30,000 DB9 and a Mercedes E250 that's leased at £350 a month. Running costs of those are going to be £500 a month.
I take 4 holidays a year at £2000 a time and spunk £2000 when I'm on each holiday.
I spend £500 a month on eating out, £300 a month on clothes ( bearing in mind I'd have plenty already)
I'll wear a £3000 watch.
I'll pay £30 a month for my I phone, have Waitrose deliver £100 of goods a week.
So, my apartment and car take £430,000 from my million.
If I have a £50,000 job that'll pay all the above ( no mortgage remember) and the £16,000 holidays would be paid from the interest at 3% on the remaining £570,000.
What am I missing?
Petrol, insurance etc on the cars, inflation going up quicker than interest rates etc, etcSingle guy.

I think you need to review what you consider to be a "millionaire lifestyle"... I would call it "getting by ok"...
The above isn't a millionaires lifestyle but it's still way, way above that which 90% of the population experience.
An Aston, Merc and 4 holidays a year? I think most people who own a house and a car and have enough for a few small luxuries each month without having to resort to pay day lenders would consider they were "getting by ok"

When you have proper money you can drive what you like and don't give a stuff what people think. Whats the point of having the money and cars if you can't drive them because he is worried what people will think if he drives a nice car.

I got the impression that that could have been his hypothetical millionaire lifestyle?
The little list I put up isn't my lifestyle, it was hypothetical, just some thoughts to get the old grey matter working.Cotty said:

My point in replying to the O/P was there is no such thing as a millionaire lifestyle, only a chosen lifestyle. Those who decide to show off their wealth do so not because they are rich, but because they want to let other people know they are rich. My old boss (Clive Calder) sold his company to BMG for £2.4 billion, yet he generally wears tatty jeans. That's not a billionaire's lifestyle, just a lifestyle.
the OP means a lifestyle, that others would percived by others to be that of a millionaire, which usually revolves around material things, such as cars, holidays, houses, toys etc.
i.e. A flash car, some nice clothes and a shiney rolex, with a bit of a tan from that holiday villa in ibiza where you smashed 10k on a table at blue marlin.
not, what do actual millionaires do with their cash. id like to think i have a million in assets, I dont have a millioniaire lifestyle.

How much do you need to lead a lifestyle like you have described, is that what anybody would describe as a millionaire lifestyle on here and also, would the average man in the street say someone who lived as I've described as living a millionaire lifestyle.
I think many (most) would.
On Pistonheads of course a millionaire lifestyle seems to equate to having a big house (which is probably close to falling down)but not much more, that to me isn't a millionaire lifestyle at all. It's boring.
If I had as much money as these people say their friends have Beleive you me I'd let people know but then I'm a flash sod.
A guy i work with is 32 ish, has the lifestlye you describe. bit of an essex geeeeeezer

he takes home about 250k a year on average but made about a million last year

That is probably a millionaire lifestyle to be fair. That being the lifestyle available to someone with the net worth of £1m or there abouts.Single guy.

Never mind all that, where are these £2k 1st class / 5* holidays you were talking about? It was (I thought fairly obviously) tongue-in-cheek! The above isn't a millionaires lifestyle but it's still way, way above that which 90% of the population experience.

fk spending your own money. Be smart and spunk someone elses. Sponserships and endorsements are where the fun's at. Get free bling, and paid to wear it
A few holiday snaps find their way to the media = you dont pay for your holidays..
Even houses pay for themselves over time, only real drain on the purse is coke.
