Does she also turn the radiator down when she gets too hot, rather than going to the thermostat?

It easy. We changed to a wireless system a few years ago. I left the old wired one in place and didn't tell my wife its no longer controls the heating smile

Another one from a female friend. We were round my dad's house, and being a bit of a local history buff, he was on about an area of Birmingham that was big on prostitution years ago, or 'vice' as he put it.

She piped up, genuinely a bit puzzled: "But why did people need so many vices?"

My mother was living in my granny flat up to her 98Th birthday, independent apart from some help with cooking & cleaning. She did however start having a problem with the heating after about her 96Th birthday.

She said the reverse cycle heating by the air conditioning unit was too noisy, & wouldn't use it. Thus on cool mornings she would turn on the electric fan heater in her sitting room.

As the day, with heater, warmed she would then turn on the air conditioning. We would often find both going at morning tea time.

She is great at parking, reverses into spaces at the side of the road first time every time.

Unless I am helping.

If the space is very tight I get out to help.

I used to say left hand down a bit, she turns right.

Now I say right hand down bit when I want her to turn left, no problem.

If I explain what left hand down on the steering wheel means it pi55es her off, not worth the aggro. I suspect she thinks that the hand on the wheel has to go down through the full circle of the wheel but I am not going to ask.

Try saying 'right hand up' in future, see how that goes down; or up confused

The youngest is furthering her education at an agricultural college, as part of their course the college is providing each student with a chick so that they can learn about development etc. The college has told each student that they can keep the chick/chicken if they have suitable housing for it at home.

So I've had the youngest pleading with me "can we keep the chick at home, we can build suitable housing etc?"

She has said that there will be free eggs, knowing that I like an egg, the wife pipes up "but won't you need a male chicken aswell to produce eggs?"

To be honest I'd have no idea what you meant either.
Why not just say turn the wheels left/right?

Left hand down and right hand down are pretty much the simplist ways of explaining it.

Litrially move your left hand, down.

How do you turn the wheels left? Plus when reversing you wuld need to do the oppisite.

"left hand down" is how I understand it as well - easier than "turn right", as if you're reversing you may be looking over your shoulder.

I'm not sure I understand this bit - surely you do the same to go left whether you're travelling forwards or backwards: left hand down. No?
