Yep, I think we have all experienced this. It's how they shop too.

If I go shopping (rare, isn't that what the Internet is for) and find what I want in the first shop I buy it and come straight home. Women, find what want in first shop, yes but may be something better somewhere else even though first shop one is perfect. Tour around more shops, with an obligatory coffee stop, then go back to first shop and buy first item 4 hours later with half a day wasted.
Gatherer behaviour:

Go round every food source, look at all of them, then retrace steps selecting the best/ripest/about to become overripe.

Hunter behaviour:

Kill first acceptable meat source, return.
Brilliant. Defo a hunter

And it has to be said that Hadrian's wall is well south of the england/scotland border anyway.
All of 13 miles in places..
13 must be the closest point. On the east coast it must be 60 miles at least.

Yeah, because Croydon is the cradle of almost all civilisation.

Hmmm Chester, York, Edinburgh, Perth; or Croydon

Well, sort of yes. It's up to the present monarch to decide who is PM, and in theory she could name anyone, they don't have to be an MP.

It's a good question too, you don't need to be an MP to be leader of a political party either.

I bought a spotting scope and tripod so we could look at ships etc going past our place

I set it up on the tripod and pointed it at a ship in the bay.

A couple of hours later, I asked my wife if she had tried it.

Yes she said, but I couldn’t see anything, I don’t think it’s very good

I asked her if she had removed the lens cap

The reply

“No, I didn’t have the time “

It depends on the party constitution. You certainly do to be a Conservative PM. I don't know about the other parties.

I think it's the same for the lib dems. I have a recollection that thei leader lost in an election, and they couldn't continue. I think that time they only had 8 MPs, so not much choice...

If only.

There are so many people, intelligent, literate, financially and electorate aware that I would rather see as PM than any of the current offerings from ANY of the political parties all of whom appear to be looking to climb the greasy pole to benefit their own ego rather than the people whom they are supposed to represent.

I’m right with you on that one Tony.
As Billy Connolly said, “No person who wants to be a politician should be allowed to be one.”

I would go a step further.

Anybody who wants to be a politician should automatically be prevented from becoming one.

Wise man Billy. He also said don’t vote. It only encourages the bds.

Douglas Adams in The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series, episode 12 may predate that, but not sure.

She should do a you tube review of all the top brands with the Lens cap left on to see if any of them are good like that.

If not earlier. The general premise "no one who seeks power should be allowed to have any" is probably Greek or Roman.

...and while we're on the authors theme, in one of Terry Prachett books they have the following exchange:-
“We put all our politicians in prison as soon as they’re elected. Don’t you?”
“Why?”
“It saves time.”
