I'm just interested in what your opinions are of where you live? Good for driving? Good for outdoor sports etc

Lived in NW, NE, SE, SW of England and London.

NW was the best for driving. Least traffic, best roads, least OTT law enforcement.

Absolute best roads I've ever driven in the UK were N. Wales and the highlands of Scotland but never lived there.

Whitby area, North Yorkshire. It is a splendid area for driving, and I love it.

I live in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Basingstoke is ... adequate. There's nothing wrong. Not much special. It has st bits and good bits. The same as anywhere.

Hampshire, on the other hand, is a wonderful county and I have loved living in it for more than twenty years. Whilst recognising my Welsh origins I tell people who ask "I'm from Hampshire." It's my adopted home. Great driving. Great food. Great walking. I couldn't ask for more.

Here:

On the edge of Salisbury Plain - outdoor nirvana for walking and MTB'ing. Some good driving roads too!

SW London, not far from the countryside but everything else is close - work, bars, restaurants, sports clubs etc.

Co. Durham, yep love the place (well South Durham anyway, though there's far too many bloody wind turbines). Teesdale being my favourite part though Weardale has it's charms (some good roads around Stanhope/Wolsingham area) and not a huge amount of traffic, though as anywhere you get some dopey sorts that like to pootle when you want to enjoy the twisties.

I live in Leeds, and honestly don't know how people exist South of the m62. Leeds seems a nice mix of countrysidey pleasantness but still has an Ikea. Every time I go to London I feel so sorry for the people who have to endure existence down there.

I could happily live on some Scottish island. However, I like leeds

West Berkshire for me.

Overall it's just a thoroughly lovely place - countryside aplenty however also has the necessary infrastructure to make living convenient.

Newcastle (West) so pretty good overall, agree the NW has the better roads though.
