I am having my boiler replaced and as result we don't need the copper hot water cylinder any more.

Just wondering if anyone knows how much these are worth, as I could weigh it in for scrap, or should I just leave it outside for someone to take away on the back of a transit?

Thanks for your help, might try Ebaying it first, see if it can still be used in a heating system.

Price of scrap is pretty low just now, theres not really much weight in a hot water cylinder I would think £20 might be optomistic.

Price of copper is currently around £2500 per ton so weigh it in.

I got £48 for a cylinder about a month ago that came out of a renovation project.

Another good one is old electric cable.

Got 30 quid the other week for one.
Depending on how its been installed they might have to put a hole in it to drain it out, we did as its quite heavy full of water.

Weigh it in!!'

I renewed the Central heating in my house about two years ago. The copper and lead pipes and tank were worth £398 in total as scrap.

Result !

I think you would get more for it if you got rid of the insulation that covers it.

Sounds a plan to me.

Give it a few months & we'll be looking for one to fit to replace the one Caravan Utilising Nomadic Traveller folk stole a bit over a year ago. Seems the larger ones are about £200 new.

There are two rates for copper, clean an dirty, more money for clean copper. Go the whole hog - remove the insulation jacket and take off all the brass.

The new cylinders weigh roughly 12 kg each, the older ones weigh more (bigger, and thicker copper used).

hehe Sure is, the guys that rewired my house weren't too happy that I'd had their beer money as well smile
