Nice, you'll be needing the matching lighter now......

Mrs Knee bought me a 'Havana Club' cigar ash tray. She's hoping I'll stop using her saucers as an ash tray now.
We keep talking about getting a proper decent ashtray but haven’t seen one we really like yet.
As for lighters, my wife managed to pick this up at an auction a few years ago.

These arrive today:
https://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/cuban-light-smokes-samp...

I figured be a nice sample of cigars to get started, and I can experiment from there.

I also have a humidor arriving, and a cutter, so looking forward to one soon (outside at the bottom of the garden, since this new "hobby" is not very popular with the family smile )

In terms of a reasonably priced cigar to have more regularly, something towards the mild end, what is recommended?

I got some wonderful Upmann Mag 54 for Christmas, MrsB took note of what I was smoking when we were in the cigar lounge at Ten Manchester Street a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll give those a try next, in the meantime I've ordered another 4 mixed mild to try a decent range of them.

Also ended up getting a jet lighter, this is not turning out to be a particularly cheap venture smile

I am in Vienna for Christmas and I have noticed that many of the newsagents / tobacco shops have small walk in humidors about the size of a double wardrobe. Impressed! Prices are reasonable and you can smoke in many bars too!

I have a Partagas lusitanias and a quay d’orsey 54

Happy Christmas
I live between here and zurich and Vienna is great for cigar smokers. Even our local tobacconist is an absolute haven. You can always find interesting stuff, and it’s actually cheap to buy them here, I find.

I have a couple of friends who like cigars who I’m happy to indulge with my nicer cigars. Most are not regular smokers but will have one if asked. For these situations I have therefore taken to always keeping a few cheap ones that say “Havana” on them. Even though cigars are good value here it stops me having to watch someone wasting one and let’s them feel part of the cigar party biggrin

PS Kruger’s is a nice cocktail bar for cigar smoking.

Realised I had a few lying around a few months back. Restored them over the case of a month to cure the dryness.

Sorely tempted to take it up properly now, but have no idea best online retailers?

I've used https://www.cgarsltd.co.uk so far, as they have some nice sampler sets, and prices seem broadly comparable with other places.

Orders arrived quickly and well packaged, so unless there's some other recommendations that are cheaper or better from more experienced folk, I will continue to use them.

I also used Cgars Ltd, a,ways get great service from Mitchel and his team.

Sorted my humidor out this week and discovered four boxes of cigars that I had forgotten I had even bought.

I try to buy mostly when travelling, last big haul was at Frankfurt airport a couple of weeks ago.

When I am in the UK for a prolonged period (not often enough!) I use cigars of Habanos who are based in Hong Kong. Great prices, delivery takes a couple of weeks. It's potluck with customs though. Most packages sail on through, but every now and then a nasty bill is attached from customs and excise.

Wow, I suck at smoking cigars. Was desperate to give one of my new cigars a go, so gave the H.Upmann Coronas a try.

I really struggled to light it, then once lit I was constant having to take small puffs to try and keep it alight!! It went out a few times and I eventually got fed up with trying to keep it lit so gave up.

It also didn't taste like a cigar, if that makes sense, I've smoked more flavoursome cigarettes, and this actually tasted more like a cigarette than the flavoursome cigar I was expecting.

Bit let down, but have two more substantial cigars to try so will see what those are like.

You've fked up there. If you constantly puff on a cigar you'll overheat it and make it taste very acidic and unpleasant. You need to light it correctly the first time around and then smoke it slowly. It needs a very hot jet lighter to light, cigar matches aren't great.

It's also possible you got a dud, it happens now and again. If it was a struggle to keep it lit, it may have been over humidified.

Hopefully the next will be much better, keep us posted.

Think that's exactly what I did then, it tasted pretty awful.

I've ordered a VVay 3 flame jet lighter, so that should do the trick going forward.

I have a humidor and it's sitting at around 60%, so I think the cigars are okay mosture wise, although as a Newby I may have it wrong. Onto a Churchill short once I have the lighter, so will see how it goes...

I'm a newbie as well so I may get shot down by more experienced smokers.

I started my humidor around 65% but now running it around 75% as I personally prefer the cigar a bit moister.

It takes me a couple of long matches to get a stick started. Let the red lighty bit burn off then I warm the end with the first match. Second match to get the end glowing then hopefully good to go.

I had an Upmann half corona before Christmas and found it hard work. It seemed tightly rolled and didn't draw very easily. The HdM Epicure No.1 on Christmas Day was an much easier draw and a pleasure to smoke. It was the first Upmann HC I have had so may be an anomaly. I like their Magnum 46 which is worth a try.

Cracked it, had a much nicer cigar, a La Rosa de Sandiego Connecticut which is really good value too.

Toasted the foot properly and got it lit nicely, was a lovely cigar. Fortunately bought 5 so will be my initial "go to" cigar, lovely flavours and great burn.
