Didn't Ted (Founder of PH) looking into something similar to this after selling PH to Haymarket? I'm not entirely sure how the site is progressing, but I reckon it's difficult to get a large audience without massive marketing strategies in place ...

I Occasionally use Gumtree, and although owned by Ebay now, is nowhere near as "monitored"

It's a shame eBid never really took off. Like many things, people tend to stick to 'popular' rather than better.

sure id take a look , then when theres none of the bits im looking for im straight back to ebay

whatever it is needs to become popular and busy fast or folk will drop it

The reason ebay is like it is, is because that's what it takes to become a successful auction site.

Without the fees, you cannot provide the website.

Without the rules, it becomes (even more of a) scamfest.
