An Oculus rift after trying my mates out over xmas, you won't get it unless you've had a go yourself.
I was really sceptical at first but after having mine around a month now I have been very impressed. Lone Echo is a brilliant game! Hopefully we will start to see 2 x 4k screens in the next couple of years and then I think it will really take off.

Got mine as a present from Mrs geeks and I love it. Try Elite Dangerous on it, this is how spaceship games should be now smile

I was given an Amazon Dot for Christmas so I had to buy some D-Link smart plugs to work the Christmas lights. They didn’t work as I had a dual band router and the they only work on older routers, when I split the bands it went all to cock. They went back and were replaced by smart plugs from the Apple shop for twice the price. It was then apparent that they wouldn’t work with ‘Alexa’ so that led to the purchase of an Apple TV box for a home hub.

Siri can now turn on the Christmas lights that come down today.

But in other news, while in the Apple shop yesterday getting the TV, the Nanoleaf Aurora caught my eye. That will be happening soon!

Not sure about frivolous, but I'm sat here surfing on my iPad, while my wife is glued to some drivel on the box, looking for something unnecessary to spend £60 of Amazon vouchers on. No work tomorrow and a dram or two may be on the cards. I therefore fully expect to ask myself "why the hell did I order that?" in the morning.

Any useful (or useless) suggestions?

Unlikely to be too epic. I'm generally not particularly spontaneous and with it being Amazon I can't imagine anything too crazy being bought. If it were eBay it might be a different matter!

It's a way of emitting light with a type of diode, rather than a filament bulb, but that's not important right now. sillywink

Arduino kit? For prototyping electronic microcontrollers, lots of cool projects to be found with those!

Ok, it cost me £40 so not overly frivolous but I have absolutely no musical skills whatsoever and not a bloody clue how to use it.
It's something called a Novation Launchpad S, it's shiny, makes a noise and is hopefully a collectable of the future so all good.
(not my picture btw, that would imply I knew what I was doing with it!)

It's an 'Arduino' uno.

You can throw code into it to control all kinds of electronics projects.

One of these is destined to stream all of my Cambus data, and change ecu settings via my raspberry pi.

I'll be sticking some smaller battery powered ones onto my bins smile
