More frivolous purchases, stuff you don't need..

I sent the RetroN link to my brother. He still has all his C64/Amiga/NES/SNES/Sega etc etc. Woke up to a message saying he has bought one!
There's also an adapter available that plugs into the megadrive port so you can then play game gear and mastersystem games.
All my original consoles will still be set up in the room with all the retro stuff in but I thought this would be nice on the main TV in the living room.

Any suggestions for a NAS server to backup a 500+ DVD collection since my DVD player had died through inactivity?
I know I could just buy another DVD player, but, you know, future proofing and streaming and frivolity?
It’s an interesting place to be.I know I could just buy another DVD player, but, you know, future proofing and streaming and frivolity?
For our business we create huge amounts of video and photos data from the big drones.
So we constantly need more storage.
In the same way we have 16 TB of Synlogy NAS raid storage.
At first when we had lots of nas capacity we copied lots of dvd to the nas.
But it’s actually a waste of storage. The best way to watch dvd is simply to use the dvd in a high quality player, it works better as that’s the way the control interface was created.
I was lucky to buy hundreds of quite current dvd from a friend for less than £20.
Now when I want to watch a decent recent film I power up my Panasonic blue ray player and watch those dvd in scaled up high quality.
And we don’t use up any valuable storage for our drone data.

I bought an antique valve radio a couple of weeks back to "restore" - big standalone Marconi thing.
I don't even listen to the radio, ever, and I'll probably never get round to restoring it either. Another garage ornament for now!
when I work in the garage I always use a valve radio, I put it on radio 4 or radio 2 and work away. Old school, but it reminds me of my childhood listening to radio 4 that was always on in the kitchen,I don't even listen to the radio, ever, and I'll probably never get round to restoring it either. Sadly nowadays its changed somewhat and bugs me as most of the programmes cannot avoid terms like patriachy or mysogyny and are so PC and men hating its annoying.

I always find that R4 is good in its overall coverage, but the interviewers really push absolute non-issues to try and score points. It annoys me sufficiently to avoid listening to it these days. Also, I've seen the way the kids discard discs everywhere, and given that I have some v rare editions and steelbook BR, I don't want to risk them being damaged.
I'm thinking a 4 bay unit but build it up drive by drive as I start filling it.
It will be purely personal use, and I have a couple of old Lacie drives with photos that can be replaced by it.

With all of these questions it comes down to what will you do with it, and how much do you want to spend. For example we have the most fun racing our 1/12 pan cars in our local school hall.
But we also have massive fun with our 1/8 scale nitro buggies at the local park.
So where you can use it once built is almost as big a question of what do you want to build and race?
I’ve been toying with a tamiya kit - either the race truck or the 2cv rally car. The latter would be ideal for where I would use it, but it seems very slow in YT vids. I also looked at making a custom sand scorcher but they don’t make them anymore.
Any suggestions for a quick but not too expensive kit? I would love a renault 4 to do a dakar replica, but anything offroad and quick with a decent range of body shells would do.

Here’s the thing with RC Cars, from someone who has played with and raced them for over 35 years.
If they are cheap, they are cheap for a reason. So as my dear old mum said, buy cheap buy twice, like the good Yorkshire lass she was.
And despite being a great fan of the Tamiya models and RC, we never actually owned one for racing , they were always more about the scale looks than anything with RC thrown in Almost as an add on.
And when it comes to racing, it’s pretty much a contact sport, so your going to break a lot of parts, some more than others.
So with that in mind I have mostly stuck to the higher end race RC manufactures, like team losi, team associated and Serpent too.
Plus I love building my cars from scratch kits too, I do have some RTR buggies but building them, so you know them inside out is what I love.
This was the last Team Assocjated Car I built, I think I got it from RC KelinKram where we got the team X-ray engines from.

I'm looking to plumb in the jet washer (basic Karcher 3) and perhaps a filtered hose for rinsing, and a hot water heater for similar reasons (combo of lockdown boredom and car / dog washing)
