Don't want to pay a fortune. Best place for one? Not looking at Barbour £300 efforts, just £20-£30. Ebay seems the prime place, but buying clothes off ebay is always a lottery with regards size and whatnot.
Where do farmers who clearly have no wifi go, to buy their farmy clothes from?

Most farmers have wifi, hence Amazon or Ebay.http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ETH534S/ref=pd_lpo_s...

I have the gillet version of these and it's been great for work. Well enough made from good fabric but I'm not sure I'd wear it out in a social situation. It makes you look a bit like a poacher rather than the gamekeeper.Pesty said:
Appalling quality; mine had almost disintegrated after less than two years., unlike my trusty Barbour which I've had since 1981.OP - if you're anywhere near the North of the country, go to the Barbour factory at South Shields, some absolute bargains to be had.

Funnily enough I had someone moaning about that exact same jacket in our shop on Saturday. OP - if you're anywhere near the North of the country, go to the Barbour factory at South Shields, some absolute bargains to be had.
Try and pick up a classic Barbour like Beufort, Bedale etc. in someones sale, probably get it for £80.
All the farmers round here spend money on their wax jackets and their boots, because when you do they do the job properly.
I'm a farmer and I have one!
I bought a relatively cheap Hoggs one about 7 years ago, it was about £80 I think. It's fraying and slightly leaky now (probably needs rewaxing) and has been reduced to my cow herding coat. It still refuses to die, and every entanglement with barbed wire and smears of cow snot only make it cooler.
It is padded though, and is tremendously warm. Probably too warm - even walking gets sweaty...Personally I would buy an unpadded one... Make sure it gets dirty too. Clean waxed jackets just look wrong!

If you buy a Barbour - it will last you a lifetime.
I've got a Barbour Classic Beaufort Sporting.

This is what you are paying for really when you choose Barbour, Schoffel, Le Chaeau, DuBarry, Aigle etc. The cotton they use will be slightly better, maybe, but they tend to use performance linings that keep you cool in the heat and warm in the cold. But I agree with you, the unlined, or think cotton lining ones tend to be best, they keep the rain and the wind out and that tends to keep you warm. Always better to layer up if you need it.
As a farmers son, go to a farming shop, the type of clothes shops that sell wax jackets will sell expensive ones that make you look like a townie
Mole Valley Farmers are good are good if you're in the South/West. SCATS used to do a good range but have turned in to more of a garden centre these days. Dunne what the equivalents are if you're further up North though.
