It's an interesting film but one thing that grated a little was the premise that the bots were doing it on their own when in fact they're clearly being programmed by one side or another to target specific individuals (those that disagreed / criticized on Social media etc)
That still indicates Human control which makes them a weapon as any other. If the premise was that they were self targeting critics then that moves into a whole different ball-park of self-aware AI. Something that could be a threat but a major step on from that presented in the film
Still thought provoking though and thankfully I think we're still someway away from the Singularity!

Wow. Very interesting. Wonder how close we are, technologically speaking, to something like that becoming a reality?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hated_in_the_Nation_...
Its on Netflix.

I didn't see that at all and don't know where you got it from. The video wasn't to highlight a future from the Terminator movies when AI becomes self aware and tries to rule/kill us or the implications of the singularity, but rather to point out weaponising AI (which you just know we're doing) could lead lead to oppression that would make Stalin look half-hearted, (or total anarchy in the case of an Anders Brevik/Stephen Paddock)That still indicates Human control which makes them a weapon as any other. If the premise was that they were self targeting critics then that moves into a whole different ball-park of self-aware AI. AI can already tell if you're gay, nevermind recognise your face, those quadcopters can already be made to do some amazingly deft things, or track you as you cycle so crashing into your head or blowing up in your room shouldn't be too impossible.
This is already within our grasp, regardless of whether it can be considered "true" AI or not. And like the Nuclear bomb or chemical weapons, it's such a force multiplier that it must be too tempting for governments not to follow as far as they can. Which government wouldn't want those. More worryingly, which governments wouldn't use them against a threat to their own power from without or within?
And that's whilst the ability stays in govt hands. My mobile can be used for facial recognition. I'm guessing the hardest thing to cook up in a homebrew one would be a way to link it all together, but just as a truck can be used to bring food to a supermarket or murder lots of people, linking AI as we have it to drones as we have them could be used for good or massive evil. We have international treaties for most of our nastier weapons, so I thought the video was to highlight that we should probably get on with something similar for AI if it's possible now.

Dented! It'd be interesting to know how the economics of that stacks up. How much can you buy a 7 series that's been ejected from the back of an aircraft carrier, what are his overheads and then what's it worth at the end. Also, will it now dissolve into a pile of rust, from the inside out.
It's a very skilled job but would you buy that car knowing what had happened to it?
