Jordan Peterson debate on the gender pay gap, campus protests and postmodernism:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMcjxSThD54

It's a pleasure to watch this guy - he refuses to allow the interviewer to put words in his mouth or de-rail the point he's trying to make by taking bits of what he's saying and trying to twist it to her own viewpoint. I'm actually going to get his book off the back of this I think.
I can’t believe I just watched a half hour interview with some random psychologist I’ve never heard of and yet couldn’t stop watching for a second! He sounds like a brilliantly clever man.
He appears to have a valid set of observations based on facts and decades of working in psychology. He also seems to want to make people better (regardless of gender) and all she could do was try to paint him into a corner or mark him as some anti-feminist/misogynist when he appears to be nothing of the sort. What's frustrating is that the interviewer couldn't get the simple observations.

Annoyingly she could have lead a very interesting interview with someone who clearly has a lot professional and academic experience on a subject and has a refreshingly pragmatic viewpoint but instead she pushes for a controversial slant.

Very interesting guy to listen to despite her trying to run him in circles.
I enjoyed that. Very interesting chap.
I liked his approach and his agruments. I looked at a few other videos though. I think he might be a bit of a magnet for misogynists and Nazis.

Does he dissociate himself from them, or does he enable them?

The interviewer is apparently attracting threats now. Who are these people who threaten those whom they disagree with???. I was unimpressed with the interviewer too, but the idea of sending threats to people who upset you. is just scary.

If he does, it's because they don't fully understand what his argument is.

It's interesting, but fake. i.e. it's 9pm in the UK and dark in Norway but his "livestream" shows a train in daylight.

I guess it is a loop of video from this year/last year, etc, pushed through livestream to attract viewers.

As said - a cracking interview in spite of the interviewer.

I love how he'll say something then she says, 'so, to clarify you mean xxxx' and then she proves that she either hasn't been listening, can't grasp the concepts or ignores what he means to spell out her own agenda.

I also felt for him as he was struggling not to laugh in her face - he let it slip a few times, but it was an excellent effort.

He was fencing with her, and seemed to genuinely enjoy it. I bet he did.
I too enjoy opposing someone who gives a spirited and decent performance enough for me to have to try but ultimately gets beaten thoroughly and totally.

He is very clever and is definitely thought provoking, but Mao to trans activists, no matter how tedious the link, is fundamentally wrong.

interestingly he said he wouldn't use pronouns for trans people, only 6 months earlier. To seems to win battles by muddling his truths a bit.

I thought he said he'd have no issue if a trans asked him personally and there was mutual understanding & respect between them both - he objected to the rule of law forcing him to do so.

I may have that wrong.

Jordan Peterson is on the Joe Rogan podcast quite a lot, he's a bizarre charachter and a pretty weak academic, to be fair he's inserted himself in a world or even more bizarre people involved in teenage politics in the hope he can shine as a towering intellect and he fails, sad really. America at its worst. From Chomsky to this... I blame the internet.

If you watch the video he qualified his "no" with ".. especially when it's backed by punitive legislation..."

Your Mao to Trans Activists is fundamentally wrong bit ... Allow me to qualify that. It's the philosophy of the left wing authoritarians which is the same, and HAS ALREADY led to millions dieing ... The philosophies are one and the same.. The Trans Activists are Left Wing Authoritarians, so was Mao. Read a book called The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and you will see what he means. It is easy to read but it will be hard to read ...

Thats how I read it. Thats how it happened. I have followed JP since Feb 2016. He is very smart. Honest too. I see some posts here calling him a weak academic. Not so ... These critical people are simply not keen to discuss their core values, because if they were they would find JP's synopsis of them would make them say "err... you got me there" smile

Straw man gibberish. Post modernism is a genuinely interesting fringe academic theory, that is no threat to main stream society and culture but worthy of attention if only by a disaffected youth, its been around since the the 60s in Europe but the ideas have been around since Plato.

Authoritarianism, left or right (both meaningless labels) has nothing to do and zero political ethos in common with post modernism.

And sides that the vast vast majority of people who want to observe a new cultural paradigm in which people are afforded respect and dignity in their gender or lifestyle choices are neither (not to mention racial heritage) are neither post modernists or authoritarians, they're just kids pushing back against the world view of the last generation.
