When you drop a lid or something round onto a worktop and it spins around making a noise, until you splat it.
Damn, I love that sound. :-)
Me too. I get annoyed when somebody splats it prematurely. I always think "I wonder how long that'll be spinning" and want to let it run to its natural conclusion. Killjoys.

Need!. Frivolous purchases thread, here I come.

Actually at £40 I think I can live without it for now. They all seem to come form America; I'm off to Orlando next week so I'll see if there's one in the shops there.

I only just noticed this.

Yes, it does seem rather crap doesn't it. What are they thinking?

Whichever plum is in charge of roads at Leeds City council. I am assume its a cycling vegetarian type with problems with self love and loathing.

For signing off on the bus lane foolishness on kirkstall road alone they should be boiled in oil.
They probably are. I once shared an office with a team of transport engineers. Most of them were cyclists and hated cars.

And little grannies get mown down by cyclists as they cross the cycle lane to get to the bus. Meanwhile, that bus is now blocking the solitary, narrow lane, ensuring that all the traffic builds up behind it rather than filtering past as it did before.
It cost £1.7m (40% over budget) and took 20 months (120% over schedule)
Oh and the bit from Long Road to Addenbrookes is just about to begin. Estimating seven months to do it. That bit is perhaps 100m?
FFS.
It's begun, and yes, it's proceeding at a glacial pace. You'd think it was a single guy with a broken trowel doing all the work. Oh, and they've closed the side of the road heading out of town for a while. That'll be one of the main access roads to the hospital used by ambulances.

The mobile app has long has the "full description" button. I can't remember what the mobile (web) version was like.
It bloody annoyed me on the app. It annoys me even more on the computer.

The "Choose Match" red button icon that keeps popping up on the Wimbledon coverage on my Sky box.

Pressing the 'Back up' button cancels it for a while, but it soon comes back.

This annoys me beyond reason.

The important point you are missing is that councils do not want traffic to flow freely. They want to slow it down and disrupt it. This firstly gives them an excuse to say "tough, take the bus", and secondly gives them a future excuse to introduce congestion charging.

Councils hate cars and if they could ban them completely, they would. Except for themselves obviously, as their jobs are very important and they need a car for security reasons. You plebs can all do without.
They were going to close about five of the major roads into Cambridge a while back. Quite a few councillors were queuing up to praise the scheme (including one I know, whose wife had just stopped using them daily now their kids had finished at day school in Cambridge). Thankfully, they worked out it was political suicide.

Pressing the blue button used to stop it. Not sure if it still does?

Ufortunately all we are allowed to say is that we have called and to ring us back, we know it probably scare the st out of people but due to data protection bks we cant say much
I'd say the bigger breach of data protection is the fact that they stated it's the midwife calling.

In doing so they have potentially given away very personal information (i.e. that the person the message has been left for is, or might be pregnant).

This IMO would be much more serious than simply stating "it's the hospital calling to arrange an alternative appointment time".
I'm fairly certain that my wife knows she is pregnant and that nobody else uses her mobile phone voicemail.

God, I'd managed to push that utterly fruitloop idea to the back of my mind. Many of the councillors seemed genuinely flummoxed as to why so many people, in particular residents and small business owners, were telling them it was a fantastically ill-conceived scheme.

Grunting, screeching women tennis players. The ball boys and girls should be issued with paint ball guns which they have to shoot at the grunters each time they grunt or screech.

Seeing as all things Tennis is subject of the day.......

During the Eastbourne tennis ,BBC were eavesdropping on coach and player chats between games.

Bit rude but the comically annoying bit was that many were speaking foreign languages so commentary people were

asking people to contact them on social media with translations.
