The 2016 summer and thunder thread
Discussion
Sorry folks, no summer on the way, but some lovely storms caused me to open the thread!
Some pretty vigorous thunder storms in the far SE last night:
The brief plume of 'warmth' broke down, but there should be enough instability left for some local storms this afternoon/evening too. The areas that saw storms last night are more likely to escape them tonight.
No real warmth on the horizon - this week cooler than the weekend.

Huh, I'm mid-Kent so smack bang in the middle of all that but I didn't see or hear a thing yesterday! I looked at my phone at some point and it said thunderstorms were in the area, but they must have somehow skirted around Ashford.
Well I know that map isn't totally accurate because there was thunder here in West Berks and nothing on that map!Brigand said:

I'm at Linton, just south of Maidstone. Had a humdinger of a storm early yesterday evening. You could hear it coming up from the Weald.PositronicRay said:
Hi message for Puggit
I'm thinking of going to Dijon next weekend (16th April) I don't really want to book anything until I have an idea if it's going to piss down on me all week.
Is it too early to tell what the trend is likely to be?
I'm afraid we're entering a distinctly cooler and unsettled phase over much of April, with low pressure and Atlantic style weather very much in charge (rain!). I'm afraid that the very late sudden stratospheric warming is showing itself (feel for the US East coast more though - unseasonably cold there after an warm start to spring!)I'm thinking of going to Dijon next weekend (16th April) I don't really want to book anything until I have an idea if it's going to piss down on me all week.

That said, Dijon is obviously quite far East, and a fair bit South. Tough to call at this point as it's 10 days out. The pattern could easily break and return to nice weather by the time you're due out.

Would someone like to guess at the forecast for Derby for this Sunday/Monday please?!
partly sunny with showers Sun/Mon isn't looking too clever. Typical bank holiday weather Low pressure anchored off Cornwall will ruin people's outdoor plans in the SW, with wind and rain. Rest of UK will suffer grey skies, plenty of breeze and enough rain.

Things are looking up, but can't guarantee dry. France will be between high and low pressures (which is an improvement!)I'm thinking of going to Dijon next weekend (16th April) I don't really want to book anything until I have an idea if it's going to piss down on me all week.
