But do they have high vis and clipboard?
Section 4a subsection 2.1c of the Walt Handbook Edition 26 (amended by Derek) has this useful section on page 563:

I'm off to a potential Walt hangout tomorrow - the Reading Beer Festival.
Much opportunity for hi-vis, radios, clipboards, perimeter fencing, beer guts, cowboy hats and clothes solely bought at other beer festivals or museum gift shops.
I shall return next week and give you a run down if I spot any actual Walting, as opposed to just helpful volunteering.

I saw less Walting than I have in previous years when I attended this year.
But what I did see, was Walt gold.
1. There were 2 queues for entry. One for pre-booked tickets, and one for non-pre booked. A simple system you would think and required just a couple of people to direct those to the appropriate queue. These people however, seemed to need to be in constant radio contact with each other from the back of each queue asking for "status updates" at regular intervals. For something which was due to open the gates at 11am (when the licence allowed them to start selling alcohol) I was surprised to hear the guy near us ask at 10,45 and 10.50 why the queue was so long.
2. A third man outside told 2 young kids to get off their bikes (in a public park, on a cycle path) whilst they went past the queue. They were too young to give him any lip back but they did not look happy about having what was, I imagine, their speed record attempt so rudely interrupted.
3. Much hi vis was worn and many cowboy hats were on display. None of the hi vis was necessary and in fact it made their own hierarchy LESS distinguishable. What was a straightforward system of Orange for regular volunteers, Red for bar staff and Purple for Managers was lost when all of them started wearing yellow hi vis, which itself was inconsistent because clearly it was brought from home by some - either big outdoor raincoats, or just vests over the top of another coat. However we were a fair distance from being near any traffic to worry about, and the St John Ambulance first aid point was very clearly marked.
But that's about it really. It felt much quieter this year than in the past as well.
oh but bonus points because there was a stall selling silly hats. Many people bought hats that resemble what ordinary members of the public would call "cones"

I spotted this in the NP&E Corbyn thread. There appears to be a Communist Security Commando Walt in the background complete with red beret and Hi Viz (I know Commandos have green lids but I'm sticking with that term.). Anybody have any ideas on which 'unit' he might be a member of?
