Well, I have to admit to being given high-viz, a radio and a lollypop stick to man a crossing point for a bike series event.

There was a crash, right at our location, but having picked up the riders, dusted them down, dried some tears and let them get over the shock, both children carried on.
Hero.

Example to us all.

Thank you for your service.

Etc.

Not accusing this chap of being a Walt, but...

Light banks aren't connected, not sure how sees through array of dashcams, sat nav, who knowx what else. Radioset mounted just to take your right knee cap off. Rat's nest of wiring in the cab. Stuff on roof weighs a ton.

Genuinely fascinating (not sure what it says about police funding but that's another argument). I wonder what sort of checks and verification are made of qualification and competence let alone equipment suitability, reliability etc.

Ha ha! I bet they are all creaming themselves over that.

I'm fairly sure if you translate those 'powers' from the police it really means "you can spend all day sat in a car with a flashing light, next to a fallen down tree wearing Hi Viz so that we don't have to".

If that is the case, it's a cunning plan by the police...

A CB is pretty useful when you're on the side of a mountain green laning and making a phone call isn't really practical. So, no.
