Melton Mowbray has recently become inundated with "ex cop" run private security companies (ok, artistic license - there are 2) that go around asking people questions when they're walking alone in town on Saturday night etc, or drive hundreds of miles in the area every night finding fly tipping and stuff. Response to the poor police funding, I guess.

That's what one of the companies has their cars liveried up like.

How are these guys funded? Do they just do it off their own back or are they sponsored by businesses etc?

They've provided a free trial month or so of "patrols" and are registering as Community Interest Companies, though I've heard (I'm not an administrative sort) that their numbers don't add up.

There's some alarm monitoring as... well, the other company was offering it at something like .20p a day, but could not explain to me if they meant 0.2p or £0.20.

They have some funny posts on facebook between them as well...

What do they do when they come across fly tipping ?

As they've got a nice estate maybe fill it up with the rubbish and take it to the tip ?

They haven’t got a nice estate! They’ve got an old Mondeo with Ling Long Ditch Finders and Halfords wheel trims.

By nice estate what i was getting at was a nice big estate just right for moving rubbish.

The story about the relief milker , once he's established they aren't the police why wouldn't he send them on the security on there way ?

They report it to the council and take a self-congratulatory photo and make a post on facebook.

2 companies operating. One has a pair of ratty old Fords with dubious vinyl on, one has a dog cage in the boot and I'm guessing a failed-to-graduate police dog (we have the Defence Animal Centre here it wouldn't surprise me if they'd adopted a failed one - "too nice" or something).

Don't know what the other lot use but they have the more OTT "We're professional ex-cop has-beens doing a SERIOUS job" posts.

I'm quite tempted to potter about in the villages at 3am and lead them on a wild goose chase, but I'm lazy and have a life.

If 2 of you we're game you could send the whole night sending the security from one side of town to the other then back.

The ironic thing with the relief milker is if he was at the farm it's the security who are trespassing .

No, it wasn't in reference to the CAA - egor 110 (who posted about the licensed operators) posted what it was in reference to - the chainsaws, not the licensed drone part (where no reference is made to licensed operators).

Let's not get bogged down about 'oo licenses 'oo.
Fact is there's more than one Walt Brigade on the loose. This could get nasty......or very well signposted and extensively coned off at least.

That's what one of the companies has their cars liveried up like.
They've missed a trick there.
Could've liveried them as "Voluntary Security Patrol" and spaced the words such that when the driver's door opens, the Ar of Voluntary couples with the Se of Security to spell out the altogether more accurate Arse Patrol.

My word. That was quite remarkable.

I'm pretty sure the CAA don't actually licence drones, so I'm not sure where they get the "CAA licenced drone" bit from. And "map reading techniques"...
