That's interesting thanks. BMW are clearly fully committed to it - even the iDrive menus are reconfigured.
Very impressive and explains why they are a popular choice.

That’s really cool - I wonder how those are remarketed when the Police are finished with them though?

They’re not all good, remember the decommissioned Mount Prospect Police Dodge Monaco that Elwood bought at auction for $500 in “The Blues Brothers”?
He said to Jake, “It’s got cop tires, a cop motor, cop shocks, no catalytic converter, so it runs on regular gas, waddya say?”
Jake, (throwing the lighter out of the window), “Okay, but get the cigarette lighter fixed.”

Bikes similarly....
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...
They never sell that well. The “one owner” thing is a myth. It’s has had one owner.......which will invariably be “The Metropolitan Police Service”, so yeah, one owner, dozen of riders.
They do get to see a workshop more frequently, but that’s because they do telephone number mileages and with the bikes it’s almost guaranteed to have been on its side at some stage and left out in the pouring rain.

Methinks the police over here may be envious at the number of officers that are available to deploy to minor incidents across the pond.
It would appear that in America a chair (or two) is a deadly weapon!

.... but does that have the special iDrive and all that stuff which would take a fair bit of converting back to make it the same as a civvie car?

That BMW brochure linked made it look a lot more involved than they used to be when it would just have a few weird holes in the dash and roof.

A good point.

My ex-police Volvo had a few modifications done such as relocating the stereo bits and removing lots of it, which was done prior to it being handed over to their chosen auction house/reseller - so I suppose that a lot of the specialist stuff if it can be removed and needs to be removed, then will be. Otherwise, does if it doesn't need to be removed, I guess it will stay in situ?

Tragic to go at 53, no justice, he looked like a guy who could make the Town Cryer’s job an enjoyable spectacle, not a throwback to the 17th century, a shame too about the presumed typo in the family tribute,
“Kevin knew how to add romp and ceremony.”

So if anyone was London-bound on the M3 last night and wondered what the hold up was, it was due to a colossal bell end in a decommissioned police dog car dawdling along in lane 2 at 55mph.
As per Walt code of conduct, said colossal bell end had left all the livery on the car bar the actual word “Police”.....even the original fleet number and call sign were still in place meaning the car looked about as close to an actual police car as you can get.
Needless to day, all the Lane 3 Only knobbers slammed on their brakes and refused to overtake Bell End.
“Yurrrr......buh......isss da pleece innit?”

just thinking about him after the bmw btcc thread.

Watched his video on the track which set fire and said ''not again'' and danced around like Frank Spencer. Someone pointed out in comments he has now added an Engineering Degree to his linkedin page, so maybe he is going down that walt path, but in fairness to him he has never tried to be something he is Not, I mean using a bin as a table to cut and spray stuff isn't the mark of an expert..

Surely all that would have been removed when it was sold out of service..so has he added it back on?

No idea, but it all looked extremely convincing. Maybe he’s got/Walted access to an early auction and bagged it pre-strip down?
I think this was a guy who sleeps with both eyes on the phone as he’d gone to some trouble to replace the word “Police” with “Security” wherever it occurred, in an almost-but-not-quite identical size/font.

Every so often they crop up on eBay etc with plenty of livery still on them which is "almost exactly the same as police but just different enough to be legal"

Good ol' Turbotoaster is a 100% fit for this thread. Delusional barely even begins to describe it.
