It is a thread poking a little bit of fun at those who, as many others have and do in life, use the "beard" of voluntary work and good causes to hide their true desire. In this case, to play at officialdom and feel self important whilst not having the ability to actually qualify to be any kind of official.

Quite the opposite.It proves that when it really matters the good in society will mobilise. The crucial thing is they are responding to a coordinated, specific request and are willing to do whatever is asked of them.

About whom?For me, the critical difference between a well intentioned “volunteer” and Walter, is the former just puts their hand up and says “I’ll help. What d’you need me to do?”
The post above regarding a Hi Viz Hero spouting on about taking over Police comms and other blue light fantasies is a prime example of a group who just want to take over, puff their chest out and look more useful than they actually are.
Right now, it’s anything but helpful.
