Do they prefer Bang and Olufsen or maybe Denon? Which sits better on their beer bellies?

It's not what they do but the way they do it which rubs people up the wrong way.

Good on them for volunteering but be a bit less "obvious" about it.

Yes, on your side. This is a strange thread concerning a tiny corner of a minority whose hearts are in the right place.

Indeed - this isn't a thread slagging off volunteers.

It is a thread poking a little bit of fun at those who, as many others have and do in life, use the "beard" of voluntary work and good causes to hide their true desire. In this case, to play at officialdom and feel self important whilst not having the ability to actually qualify to be any kind of official.

You had an extra space after the second dash - so the formatting didn't recognize your attempt to strike a line through the word... wink

There was one on Talk Radio this morning , not sure if he was being strung along by Mike Graham but
They are ready to step in if the Police and other service radio systems fail as they have a special system .

Quite the opposite.
It proves that when it really matters the good in society will mobilise. The crucial thing is they are responding to a coordinated, specific request and are willing to do whatever is asked of them.
Walter And His Merry Men just want to put themselves in charge and play SWAT teams.

I honestly believe there is something very special about the British. We raise massive amounts of cash for charities think sport aid and comic relief, I think far more than other nations and during a crisis we are at our best.

About whom?

For me, the critical difference between a well intentioned “volunteer” and Walter, is the former just puts their hand up and says “I’ll help. What d’you need me to do?”
The post above regarding a Hi Viz Hero spouting on about taking over Police comms and other blue light fantasies is a prime example of a group who just want to take over, puff their chest out and look more useful than they actually are.
Right now, it’s anything but helpful.
