4x4 response just got a big shout out on the Ken Bruce show - cue CC creaming himself
Who do you think rang KB and gave the shout-out? I bet it was one of the "lifesavers" themselves.

4x4 Response have been asked by the Police and festival organisers if we could help as people leave the Glastobury site on Monday.
For fk sake man!!!! Have you not heard of OpSec??!?!?! Do not divulge operation critical intel!
I thought that was another thread!!!

There goes my chance of being promoted to 4x4 Response Deputy Gold Command Police Laison Committee Officer this year.

How I coveted that extra stripe on the 4x4 and the badge on my high-vis.

So stupid, schoolboy error!!
I've got no idea hehe they've both merged into an orgy of Waltiness in my mind!
True, but in support of these chaps, they are at least prepped for logical events that do occur and their raison d'etre is to help those around them. The others would leg it in the opposite direction to their secret stash of tampons and tinned Mormons and start executing anyone who needed help.

Only just found this thread....Son is at Glasto and I own a Grand Cherokee...should I volunteer my services now and go and help my fellow dad's army types or have another beer and wait for an appeal to go out?

ps have own Hi Viz & rope.
For christ sake man, you can't just volunteer you have to go throughs years of rigorous training on using a tow rope, imagine the chaos if Joe Public rolled up just because they own a 4x4.
b b b but I never got stuck in the field at the local bootfair last week furious

I'm sure there are one or two walts with something decent with good mud tyres on, but the posted picture doesn't exactly show the 4th emergency service.
Well I imagine the mud's a bit too thick for the RNLI's RIB's to work well in hehe

(sorry but those 4'th emergency service AA ads used to annoy the crap out of me, having had friends rescued by the RNLI and worked with a couple of guys who were in mountain rescue)

I'm waiting to see some poor little hatchback with it's front half ripped off by a kinetic tow rope.

Oh I agree.

The Waltiness of it all is what amuses me though.

Be helpful, great, just not Walty!

I'm Joe Public and I got collared to go help TRAIN a 4x4 response intake just cos I had a 4x4 so I must be super special biggrin (admittedly it was teaching the newbies map reading while I was driving them down greenlanes). wink

These sort of things tend to bring out the Walts but there are still normal people who are involved in these organisations for the right reasons. If I had the time I'd of joined up but there would be no painting up of the Rangie. (though I once did this for poops and giggles while working a carpark with my Cadets a few years ago) wink

I've got a highvis and i'm sure the wife wont mind me stealing her kuga (sure its not 4wd but what does that matter)

is it just a case of adding some shiney tat to the car and acting like a tit or is there special training camps I need to attend?

My mother lives in deepest Norfolk, webfeet where needed last week with heavy rain storms.
Several houses were flooded my mate was left with the clothes he was wearing.
All the roads were flooded with fire service rescue boats deployed and lowland rescue teams who it seems are several rungs up the pecking order to some of the walts.
All the even more wannabes turned up and were driving round and round the estates looking for people to rescue.
They were asked to go home as their bow waves were flooding even more houses!!!!

I should add the Lowland Rescue teams are set up more in line with Mountain rescue. They have team vehicles and a rescue boat and proper 'command' cabin.

I would also argue that they aren't 'walts' really.
