Do Hells Angels / Bike gangs count as Walts?

A guy near me has a "Blue Knights" outfit & helmet when out on his Harley. He works in the local Homebase Gardening section, a true Wild Thing smile
If they consider themselves a '1%er' club then they're 99% criminal-walts.
Blue Knights are a Police club. So not 1%!

Was at the beach on Saturday and was made to think of this thread.
I was ferrying some family members down the beach to a good spot (not in my fully equipped ready for any eventualities mk2 discovery but rather a rather underwhelming Ford Galaxy.)
On the way out to get the second load, I passed an idiot in a Leon stuck in the soft sand.
This happens multiple times a day at holiday times. People not able to judge where not to drive.
Anyway usually what happens is a couple of people are recruited to give a bit of a push back to the hard sand. Not this time though, up drives a lifted disco with checkerplate door bottoms, sand ladders the lot and the orange light bar flashing to carry out a full scale recovery operation. rolleyes

Compare that to Matt's Off Road Recovery channel on YouTube. Yes, his vehicles are both bright yellow, and yes they do have his company (and channel) name on the side, but he seems to be able to pull some properly stuck vehicles out of all kinds of sticky situations without a great deal of fuss and certainly without needing a lightbar.

It's almost like these accoutrements are pretty much worthless tat added for the 'look at me' value. scratchchin

Did you fancy your own framed George Cross but felt left out that it was only for NHS workers? Fear not there is a (made up) Keyworkers and Caregivers award just for you….

That really is weird. I don't see the point of medals that you get for turning up for work, such as the Queens Jubilee Medal, or long service medals, but that is in a different category altogether.
Oh, st…

In my defence, I only know where this one is, as it arrived through the internal mail this week. I’ve chucked in the drawer with all the spare cables/broken pens/random keys. I’ve got the golden and diamond ones as well. And the long service one, although that’s technically the long service and good conduct medal. No idea how crap you’d have to be not to qualify for it though… and for some reason, they’ve migrated themselves out of the bits drawer to god knows where.

I know there are some colleagues who when they retire, get given a framed cap badge/helmet plate and collar, as below. I can wholeheartedly say I don’t want any of that crap when I go.

I agree. I have a Long Service and a Jubilee medal and would be embarrassed to wear them anywhere. I didn't single handedly charge an enemy machine gun nest or drag wounded colleagues to safety, I just did my job for a long time. I'm not even sure where they are. I had colleagues who wore them at every opportunity and were quite happy to stand alongside Falklands/Iraq war veterans etc.

Does he wear a cowboy hat? Surely the white trousers are impractical

Great Grandson wearing medals awarded for WW2 service

Well, looks like there is a difference of opinion!!!I

It lseems everyone is marching out of step except jdw100

If, as someone mentioned he was being srcastic, it fell well short of my sense of humour.

I may well take up the suggestion of getting miniatures for him to wear.

So JDW if it offends you froth away, and hurrumph all you like, i care not a jot. i want to keep his great granddads memory alive as to what he did, so nutters like you have free speech

And that is NOT being sarcastic
Don't let it faze you. I think someone stole his sweeties. smile

I believe the Americans call it 'stolen valour'?
He not only can't spell it properly, but has clearly not even bothered to check Section 2(b) of the Act which defines what constitutes the offence.

Embarrassed to wear the medals you've been given?

A soldier in my unit who's earned the jubilee medal will likely have done a 6 month deployment to the Baltic, a training team deployment in Ukraine, a 3 monther in the Falklands, two slogs in Kenya, combined Total of 8 months exercise on the prairie and spent about 2 years on readiness and thus unable to go home.

Are you suggesting he should not be proud to wear his Jubilee gong, which is a visible recognition from the country he's served for the sacrifices he's made?

I see your point, but, conversely, the same medal will have been 'earned' by someone who's been 100% barrack stanchion/REMF for the same period of time, possibly their whole career. I can't get too excited by it, but I do find jubilee medals a bit pointless.

When people ask what mine are for, I reel off a few interesting(ish) stories about what I used to get up to, but I am then forced to follow it up with a 'I just happened to be serving when HM had a party', which is a trifle dull. smile

See quite a few these days who have 3x jubliee medals, and LSGC. = 'I just happened to be serving when HM had a party', 'I just happened to be serving when HM had a party', 'I just happened to be serving when HM had a party', 'Managed not to get caught' hehe
