Crazes: A flash in the pan - then it's gone.
Discussion
I remember there being a rubber collecting craze when I was at school for a brief while everyone seemed to have a collection and alot of shops sold lots of different novelty rubbers.
I imagine these days googling novelty rubber collection would throw up some unintended search results.
Edited to add, just remembered my pride and joy, and the subject of much envy was a green diplodocus shaped rubber. Totally useless as a rubber of course, not that I ever even tried. It was far too precious for that.

The biscuit shaped ones were cool. Had the custard cream and bourbon ones.I imagine these days googling novelty rubber collection would throw up some unintended search results.

Chopper bike.
Choppers started off in 1969, I had one in the early 1980's, and my kids have a 2004 one. So not really a flash in the pan, more of a reminder of the 1970's.The initial production was 1969 - 1982, the revived one came out in 2004, and limited editions are still released periodically.

Having to wear a smart shirt, and no jeans/trainers rule to get into most pubs on a Friday/Saturday night for fear of being turned away at the door. (This was in the 90's, not talking clubs here but town centre pubs!) Nowadays people can wear what they want, the pubs are that desparate for business.
There was a pub in Stevenage Old Town doing that (trainers) at least until 2011, no idea if they still do as I would rather eat my own arm than go to a pub in Stevenage now. Rule was no trainers after 6pm or something similar. Friends who were inside with trainers on, quite prepared to stay until closing time on a payday Friday night have been refused re-entry after nipping out for a fag or to get cash..to spend inside the pub!!wildcat45 said:
I think they were called a Backflash. Reflective panels that went between the back lights and which necessitated the repositioning of the number plate and it's lights to the back bumper.
They usually bore the model of the car.
Looks like a lot of faff for some tat now.
I loved these when I was about 7 What about those really big stickers that had the type of car like Xr4i that went on the back window. They usually bore the model of the car.

Yo-yos at school, but they seem to come round frequently. Another one I remember from school was sherbert straws in plastic. They got banned as they were 1p each, and so people bought loads but just dropped the plastic tube after and must have created a big mess.

Never had this as a craze, but as a geologist I have a whole collection of them, Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
