Want to get some mainstream EDP. Going to the Canaries next month. Is the Duty Free shopping any good or shall I just get it here.
Decent selection but keep an eye on the prices, I didn't find any bargains when I was last there. What are you looking to purchase?
Don't have anything in particular but scent wise I think something of the Oud Wood variety. I know Tom Ford is out of my price bracket and is probably not sold in the Canaries but something similar.

Green Irish Tweed I didn't like when I first tried it, but now I really do.
It’s a lovely scent, no argument there. The problem is going to an establishment where ( even so much as one ) councilista, is wearing some cheap ‘off the shelf’ Boots crap. It’s instantly overpowered, and you might as well join in with the cheapo vomit inducing offerings, because the decent stuff tends to be far too delicate. That said, if you’re in a place that’s not conducive to the Councilista, it usually raises the right eyebrows.

I'm not wholly convinced of the longevity of the copycat stuff.

I'm obviously on my own with that, given then comments here and the reviews on their site.
A girl in an office I was working in smelled I was wearing Aventus and asked me if I would like to buy some copycat Aventus (selling copy fragrances was what she did outside of work, must be the new Avon these days) so I said yes as it was only £15 per bottle.

She got me some and it did smell reasonably like Aventus to be honest, but had a really strange plastic smell to it that remained for as long as the fragrance smell was there. It just didn't smell right at all.

I just chucked it in the bin after a few days of trying it.

The copy brand was 'Federico Mahora' and all their fragrances have numbers instead of names. Aventus is called '472'.

Anyway, that aside, my current bunch are:

Creed - Aventus (shock horror, apparently it's old hat now)
Creed - Original Vetiver
Mont Blanc - Legend Night
Mont Blanc - Explorer
Penhaligons - Lord George
Penhailgons - Endymion

My favourite by far is Lord George.

I like Kouros, but cannot use it as get accused of smelling like the ‘80s. Same with Antaeus.

I was told recently that all the great 80's mens fragrances were making a comeback.

You heard it here first.

Hai Karate has just come back.

It was reintroduced to the UK, using the original formula, a couple of years ago.

£8.99 for 100ml

Duty free not so good, Tenerife sales tax is low, not sure about the other islands. Have purchased Apple products there and some acqua di Parma box sets when I go north east on the island.

Going to loiter around John Lewis next week once half term is over, I will report back on the new Dunhill and there are some new bottles from Tom ford, brown, Tiffany and boss to try.

Those of you with Aventus & Oud Wood - how does OD compare with the longevity and projection of Aventus?

Was told John Lewis Bham was having a 20% off sale today. Picked up a batch of Colonia Essenza products and paid the following: 100ml spray £83.20, shower gel £28 and £26 for the deodorant.

Will go back next week for a sniff test of the new stuff against this benchmark.

So I've added TomFord Noir extreme to my growing list of scents, personally I adore it however I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone.

In regards to sillage the strongest I've ever smelt is one a friend recently bought by Amjal called Amber Poivre. It stings the nostrils.....

Just trying Tom Fords "Tuscan Leather". Liking it a lot !

Don't think it's for during the day though.

Great for the evening.

So what's the hot scent this year? Recently I've been TF GV but that seems old hat. Recently smelt a Replay version that was like farenheit lingered for days so lovely. Tempt me off the Savers shop price point. Gentlemen please

I have Tuscan Leather and love it.

Ombré leather is lovely too, and a good bit cheaper.

I forget which of the TF leathers I had, but it was the foulest smelling thing ever. And would the fker wash off, of course not.

Whacked out the old Chanel Pour Monsiuer EDP today, absolutely cracking. Well worth a try, proper day and night fragrance.

It would be interesting to see the age ranges of posters vs what they like as some of people 'likes' are definitely not to my taste (and vice versa i know).

But some of the TF stuff being suggested smells very 'old man' to me

But then my current rotation is;
TF Noir Extreme
Creed Aventus
D&G Spice Bomb extreme
Paco R Ultraviolet

I'm mid 30's (nearly) and I just like different smells, I don't really have a set criteria. My main rotation is:

Creed Aventus
Creed Viking
Creed Royal Mayfair
Amouage Ciel
Creed Acier Aluminum
Penhaligons Halfeti
Penhaligons Juniper Sling
Roja Oligarch (too expensive but really is a great smell)

and then a lot of Chanel and YSL stuff. And Armani Code. I like a lot lol.
