Hilarious stuff. I spent the thick end of forty quid on a Creed taster set but after I'd tried all of them out Mrs B instructed me to give them away to the local 12yr old lad who occasionally walks our dog.
That's a real shame, as they do have some great fragrances.

Maybe you were just unlucky enough to get ones that weren't to your liking.

It's probably worth going to a Creed concession in a department store to find one you like by smelling a few. I've learned the hard way as well that ordering blind is not necessarily the best thing to do!
There were five in the tester set including Royal Oud, and something to do with a Viking as I recall, but Mrs B was more impressed by the strength of the smells than by their actual fragrances and I was disappointed having foolishly built up an expectation of wondrousness. I am yet to find anything she likes better than Gaultier Le Male. I like the smell of that too but I am not too sure about the ad association with well built young sailors.

I've ended up with a bunch of samples over the past few years which I'm pretty sure I won't end up using as they're just not me.

Is anyone in a similar position who'd be up for swapping some? Better than letting them sit in a cupboard and ending up binning them...

I've got:

Roja Enigma - about 6-7ml left
Parfums de Marly Carlisle 8ml
Issey Miyake Intense 8ml
Issey Miyake Shades of Kolam 8ml
Zegna Peruvian Ambrette - bit of an odd smell this one, 9ml
Azzaro Chrome Aqua 8ml
Ralph Lauren Polo Deep Blue 9ml

All deffo genuine

Le male is Just full on creamy vanilla.

Try tom ford tobacco vanille or mugler pure malt if you like vanillary ( if such a word exists) scents .

Oh I wouldn't worry about that. Enjoying being covered in Seamen isn't anything to be ashamed of.

As for Creed, they have so many to choose from that you probably aren't ever going to find the ones you like from a 5 pack of testers. I expect if you went to a Creed store/concession you would definitely find something you really like.

Your wife is correct about the strength/longevity. Most of the Creed products only need 3 sprays or so and you will still smell them quite strongly even the next day. If it ends up on your clothes or jacket it will be noticeable even several days later.

Oud, creamy vanilla....

Am I the only one who prefers some more traditional variants such as Bay Rum or Trumper's Astor?

Anyone have experience with Penhaligon's?

Being eyeing their range for a while but haven't had chance to try any, tempted to pick up their sample set...
Penhaligon's is good in my opinion.

I first smelled Penhaligon's 'Violetta' on a lap dancer, and I liked it that much that I asked her what it was, and bought a bottle for my wife.
First class hehe
hehe

I might buy it for my wife.

Wife: How did you happen to find out about this?
Me: Some guy (not me) on PH smelt it on a stripper.
Wife: Seems legit.

Interestingly, I know what you mean about the pineapple note. I first bought a bottle of it 8 years ago and I distinctly remember the pineapple, and especially remember it being the note you could smell days later on your jacket or whatever.

Aventus is definitely less pineapple/fruity now, and does have a slightly different smell.

Still seems to last a long time to me though. I can still smell it quite strongly on clothes the next day or even longer.

I do still have a bottle of Aventus, but to be honest I have moved away from it being a favourite now. Partly because the smell has changed a bit and I don’t rate it as much, and as such I don’t think it’s worth the money any more.
Yes, Aventus lasts a decent amount of time.

I remember having to go and verify a death at the end of a day. While I was there the funeral director showed up. We were having a chat outside and he asked me: "Doc, sorry really odd question but is that Aventus you're wearing?". I suppose makes a change from the smell of embalming fluid.

Recently tried through Scent Samples:

Parfums de Marley - Layton. Seems quite hyped up on YouTube. Definitely didn't live up to it.
Amouage - Reflection Man. Pretty clean fragrance, but not for me.
Tom Ford - Oud Wood. V nice. Classy fragrance, would consider buying a full size.

At the mo still using YSL Y (EDP) as a daily but will start to roll out V&R Spice Bomb Extreme and Thierry Mugler Pure Malt for the winter.

So I stopped wearing aftershave for the longest time until about 2015 when i became interested in shaving (straight shaver, brush, cream etc,) I rediscovered an aftershave that I loved back in the early 90's called Versace Versus Uomo.

Unfortunately this cologne has been discontinued and whatever I've been able to find used, or new old stock is stupid expensive and worse till smells very weak and off which makes be believe that it's a fake. For anyone that remembers this scent, I would love it if you come recommend something similar.

Many thanks and yes, the packaging has aged

As ever, Agua Brava by Puig, sadly the scent is less intensive for a few years now,

managed to buy NOS for a while but no longer available, have to splash out a bit more now ( pun unavoidable ).

TToLG is one of the free samples I've requested with my order.
I love it.

If you read/watch a few reviews, people often describe it as what 'wealth' smells like, despite that sounding ridiculous, I really like that description rofl

It smells massively gentlemanly and classy. It has that real barbershop smell of high-end shaving cream and loaded with a boozy brandy smell, and also a bit of classic amber/wood/tonka in there as well.

It doesn't project massively, but I think thats part of the appeal. You can put a few sprays on and smell great, but it isn't in your face, and you won't be making people smell it across the other side of the room, which is part of the 'gentlemanly' appeal of it I think.
Well TToLG is superb; if they'd have put that in the sampler set I'd bought I'd have been more tempted by that than any of the others.

I think a bottle of this will be ordered...

Not surprised you like it. Totally under rated, and under the radar fragrance in my opinion.

As soon as I tried it (by totally random choice) in a Penhaligons store I loved it.

I have half a bottle left, and bought another bottle when it was 20% off last weekend. It's easily something you can wear for the office, meetings, evenings out, generally all occasions. It's superbly wearable and not 'in your face'.

I think I may have had a touch of that once but a couple of Imodium tablets fixed it.

It's not widely known that Yul Brynner was allergic to aftershave, also he was a big fan of Liverpool FC.

Yul never wore cologne

.

It's common for aftershocks of that gag to be felt for many days, don't worry but keep the cat indoors.

I am using Naban from Arquiste which is pretty good as it is, according to their website.....

"a woody and smoky oriental fragrance evoking the dark hull of a galleon full of exotic cargo"

indeed!!
