Just ordered the full sample set from Zoologist. I'm a sucker for unusual scents (love the branding too) and these have been reviewed highly.

I'm especially interested in trying Bat which was the Winner of the Art and Olfaction Awards 2016 in the Independent category.

“Designed by award-winning perfumer Dr. Ellen Covey, Bat is undeniably, the strangest, most wonderfully unique perfume you will ever smell. Opening with a nearly overwhelming note of damp, primordial earth both vegetal and mineral in execution, this immediately conjures inky caverns and pitch-black, damp limestone caves. The scent then morphs into something I can only describe as “night air and velvet darkness”; I cannot say how she has done this, I only know that it is the very essence of the vast, temperate midnight sky, the glowing moon high overhead. At this point it becomes something quite different, and quite possibly even more beautiful.”

Intriguing.

I was intrigued and found this review on Reddit....

My experience with Zoologist Bat:

I read the notes before I got this sample. I thought I knew what I was getting myself into- I like fruit and I’ve found soil accord to be quite interesting at times (I like both CB Invisible Monsters and Demeter Thunderstorm). But I wasn’t expecting this.

I first applied it and caught a whiff of taking cheap shots at the bar. I couldn’t decide if it was Jack Honey or bottom shelf tequila with a lime. I decided it was both. Thankfully within minutes that toned down (but never completely disappeared) and I got a dank cave and soil. Wet leaves followed by bananas. Dole fruit cocktail. Dog. Then the fruit started to rot. Too sweet and almost nauseating. After two hours, I had to leave the house, and I was embarrassed to leave my house smelling like this. I didn’t want to subject anyone to this decaying scent so I scrubbed.

Later I washed my face and as I dried it off in the same towel that I used earlier on my hands, the smell hit me again. It was worse this time. Sickening. It’s also under my fingernail and I want it gone.

The only redeeming thing about this experience is that I imagined a painting of dogs sitting around a table, taking shots and eating Dole fruit cocktail out of a can while in a cave with bananas hanging from the ceiling. If I could paint that masterpiece, I would and it would be more popular than dogs playing poker.

This is the first time I’ve had such a visceral reaction to perfume before. Truly nauseating and I hope I can sleep tonight without catching any lingering smells.

I have a 1ml sample that I’ve only used once that I want gone out of my house, so if you want it, you can have it.

Edit: I got rid of it already, thank God

Love that review!. I'm looking forward to getting a sniff of it, good or bad.

Creed's Acier Aluminium is my benchmark for a truly rotten scent. It can't be any worse can it?

That's one of my favourites laugh I'd avoid a lot of the Amouage's if that's your thoughts on Acier Aluminum. Sadly I think Creed have discontinued AA now frown

I'm quite a fan of Amouage and have been wearing Interlude today. I also like Royal Mayfair too.

AA smells like my old dearly departed gran's handbag though, absolutely minging. hehe

I think Interlude and AA have quite similar vibes - Interlude is another favourite of mine! I don't really have a refined nose, though, if I like something I just like it and don't really drill down into it laugh

Amouage Beach Hut or Bracken are probably my current favourites.

Asked to borrow some of my brother in laws as I forgot mine.

He had Fookin Old Spice and Aramis. He is only 30 years old!!!

Is this the way of the manly world now?

I adore Armani Code and Boss.

I am wearing Zoologist Bat. One small spray on my wrist. I don’t want to go overboard given its reputation.

It’s definitely strong, complex and unique. I’m getting bananas (going?) and tropical dampness like a hot house in Kew Gardens. It really could smell something like a bat cave littered with fruit that has just gone overripe. One more spray and it would really be too cloying.

I can see the cleverness in its creation but it’s really not something I’d want to smell like. If you like the metallic banana vibe in Acier Aluminium you might just like this. Otherwise this one is for Bruce Wayne.

Amber by Laboratory Perfumes is my newest scent. Smells gorgeous however a little disappointed with its durability, seems to disappear after a couple of hours.

Acqua di Parma is next on the hit list.

Any suggestions on places to sell part used fragrances?

I've got a 90% full 100ml bottle of Tom Ford Neroli Portofino, which I want to sell so I can try something else.

Is there somewhere 'good' I can sell it on?

eBay - top it up with water/white spirit, you'll get more for it. hehe
