I also have a first gen Ipod Nano still kicking around somewhere. I know that the ipod came first but that thing was huge, this tiny slick player was the first one to really sell me the idea of a portable mp3 player, such a simple and elegant design.

Just a shame then that it was the first Apple product that introduced me to the wonderful world of itunes. What a hateful hateful piece of software.

I had mine swapped for a new model nano a few weeks ago after i found it in a box, I don't think it even worked.

I've got a load of old PDAs kicking around, from a time when I used to develop for them - in fact I've got an old 3Com from before Palm was a separate company. All probably worth nothing now, but we had to buy a range of them to test on - same for Pocket PC / Windows Mobile devices.

As for video recorders - I've still got a JVC Super-VHS recorder connected up, for when I eventually decide to transfer some stuff from old VHS tapes (things recorded from the TV that can't be bought for £1 from Cash Convertors on DVD), the trouble is it's such a long-winded job that I don't get around to it. And I've still got the two previous recorders in case I find a tape that won't play on the JVC for some reason - a previous JVC, and my old Panasonic.

I was aware of this but not sure if I can be bothered boxing it up and sending it off tbh. I rarely listen to music on on the go now and when I do I have my phone.

Just had a little dig around...

Remember when AOL used to send you free trial CDs? Well before that they were on floppy disk, whatever happened to Pipex?
I remember the thirty AOL CDs per week laugh

When first setting up broadband the whole thing stopped working. No internet at all. The helpful note on the back suggested

We recently moved and i've finally decommissioned a Sony Mini-disc separate and a 50+1 CD jukebox-type CD player in favour of Sonos. Dad's house was flooded last wk, so i'll have to go back there soon and dig out all the stuff from my old bedroom, but there will be RC cars, more minidisc stuff, lots of mobile phones (i recall having an early Mitsubishi and a Startac c.19years ago) etc etc! Will obv get pics!

Does a Sega Game Gear and about 10 games in the rear footwell of my car count? I found it in the garage last week and intended looking for a power cable.

Okay so I went into my loft, dug out the Compaq 2680a laptop.

Bag is a bit dusty, wouldn't want to lug it into the office everyday either, it weighs a tonne! I put my Mac next to it for scale.

There she is, unleashed. A bit yellow but not bad for 27 years old.

You'd be the top dog at the office with your x386 processor, 4.3mb HDD and built in Lotus Notes keyboard key chart!

(Not pictured - optional trackball mouse which uses a g-clamp to attach to the side, smart stuff)

When that keyboard pops, the secretary's knickers drop. Not sure what goes into that hole underneath. Still have asset stickers from Courage (now Scottish & Newcastle) brewery.... Wonder if they want it back?

Alas after plugging in and flicking the switch, she didn't fire up. Perhaps the battery needs a nudge but I'm not holding out much hope.

I first played Doom on one of those that my Dad brought home from the office. I had to minimise the screen to a small rectangle in the middle. laugh

Ah, so you're the other guy who bought a Psion Series 7! If that thing had worked with a WiFi PCMCIA card, it would have sold much better.

The Psion 7 was soooo close to greatness - OS and apps were so much better than the equivalent offerings on Windows CE (or WinCE as it became known hehe). But it was too expensive to get the critical mass it needed. Of course, the OS went on to become Symbian, powering a billion mobile phones in the 2000's,

Agreed. I used to love my MD and one of the later ones with Sony's awful software that worked over usb.

I got it just before the rise of the iPod IIRC, and I remember being utterly baffled as to why Sony insisted keeping the software proprietary, so that you had to use it to manage content on the disc. If they had just allowed you to use the disc as effectively a removable drive, and bosh a load of MP3s on to it, I think it would have lasted a lot longer as it was a brilliant format in so many other ways.
MD was a great format, particularly for mobile/location recording.
Sadly, Sonys paranoia about piracy meant you couldn't copy FROM the MD to a computer, even using their own bloody software, meaning recording onto the MD was pointless if you then had to go D->A->D to re-record it just to end up with a file on your computer. On some of the models that had an optical out, it was still a realtime transfer so just as time consuming. Even the really high end professional units had some issues. Their LP2 and LP4 modes were really useful as well for extended time.

Superb little format that could have had a much longer life than it did.
