Tell us something really trivial about your life (Vol 28)
Discussion
The SLK Spring Clean starts today. This year it will be more thorough than usual as it's going into the body shop next week for the few bits of corrosion and - with any luck - a tidy up of the inside. One of the let downs with the car is the amount of the interior which is painted. It wears through and looks really pony. As far as I know all the panels start off black and are painted, even the black ones. So if you have an SLK with a black interior it look as untidy as all the others where it has worn through.
Any of this making sense?
The pièce de résistance are the wheels; refurbed, new tyres and waiting to go on. It's going to look good. For an old timer.

Out of interest old chap, what year is the SLK? Just that I've looked at a few E Class estates around 03-06 vintage lately, I was astonished by the amount of rust on them. Any of this making sense?

It was a bit off-putting to be honest, I'm concentrating the search on a nice old Saab Aero now.

'98 - but it has been pampered. Shed had one a few weeks ago and chaps queued up to pour scorn on the SLK in general and early ones in particular. My arguments about looking for a good one or buying one cheap and spending money on it went nowhere. The early ones have fallen off valuation apps and it's down to opinion as to what each car is worth. My guvnor did an exercise to see what he could offer for ours - older, good condition, lower mileage, fsh - against the '02 plate, higher mileage, scruffy, no history, one skanky key car he was lumbered with by one of his suppliers. The scruffy car was up for £1,995 and he reckoned ours would be on the front at £2,995. His reasoning is that ours would take longer to sell. He tired of the scruffy one and it went to auction with a £700 reserve. However, his buying price for the cars is fascinating. He would have to pay £1,200 for the '02 car and would offer £1,250 for our tidy one. It bears out my argument about looking around for a good un.It was a bit off-putting to be honest, I'm concentrating the search on a nice old Saab Aero now.
It has this sort of trouble on each corner. As I wash it by hand I can see trouble starting, dig it out and put on a blob of paint. The problems are where the returns are concealed and I can't get at them easily.
The wings on a lot of Mercs this age and younger that don't have such personal attention have rusted through as you're finding out.

I can fully understand that, from both sides of the fence if you will. However, I would still buy yours.DickyC said:

On the ones I was looking at, they had serious perforation issues on the door bottoms and the wheel arches. A lot more than you might expect from say a Mondeo or Vectra of similar age.
Anyhow, no sign of Warhol today? I doubt he'd be working on a Bank Holiday.

Fiat Pandas don't start with 2 plug leads detached!
(Disclaimer - it's not mine, it's my daughters!)
(Disclaimer 2 - didn't take me long to work out that after changing plugs it's generally considered good policy to put the leads back on!)
Especially if it only had 2 cylinders in the first place.(Disclaimer - it's not mine, it's my daughters!)

you could probably get away with it on the Panda GTX V8 version.
With the 7th Anniversary of the Trivial Thread looming large my thoughts turned to this year's souvenir. Why not have mugs again? Last year's were a success. (Success in these matters is, of course, a subject for debate in itself. There were about twenty.) The conceit this year, I pondered, could be the Trivial Thread being the public face of the World Trivia Federation - and therefore sharing the anniversary - with the mug reading WTF in large, cheerful letters.
However, with caution as our watchword, I searched for World Trivia Federation just in case. Yup, it already exists.
Oh, well. Back to the drawing board.

Odd, I know. Coincidentally I once saw Lou Reed waiting on Goldhawk Road Underground Station. He wasn't claiming to be dead at the time so there was no stigma attached. I was on a train going the other way so we didn't speak. He'd probably been to Cookes Pie and Mash shop. It's near the station.
I was once nearly run over by Mike Rutherford.I thought I had enough time to cross the ring road in Guildford before the traffic could get there. I was very very nearly wrong, I had to run like buggery, then noticed that the bloke driving the RangeRover looked just like the bloke from Mike and the Mechanics

Apologies for the poor quality, it was 1991.
